  • HELP! I can’t find my files!

Posted by Suzann Johns on March 16, 2021 at 4:28 am

It’s a pretty simple, self-explanatory problem: I accidentally moved ALL of my media files and I now have one linked file. I tried “Locate” when the prompt came up telling me the files were missing, but it keeps saying “file not found”; I know I didn’t delete them, but I simply moved them into another folder, however, everything is stored in iCloud so I have no clue what to do.

I remember moving them, because my Desktop was so cluttered (I always keep files I’m working with on a folder on my Desktop for easy access), but I must have dragged them somewhere else and now, while I can find them if I do a Spotlight search, I can’t effing navigate to them in Premiere & when I copy/paste the file path, literally nothing happens. I’ve literally spent <i style=”font-weight: bold;”>years on this freaking project, so starting over is not an option, and I know the files are there.

Why won’t copy/paste work to restore the file paths and how do I restore this? I’m honestly crying; <i style=”font-weight: bold;”>please help!

Can you drag the folder from icloud back to your desk top?

When you spotlight search where does it say the files are? If you accidentally placed them in trash PP probably wouldn’t be able to see/access them there. If you know the name of the folder they are in and you can find it with spotlight you should be able to move it like Jerry said back to your desktop and your files should link back up automatically.

If that doesn’t work, when you first launch your project and the Link Media dialog box comes up, will it let you manually navigate to where your files are by clicking the drive they’re on and any subsequent folders they’re in till you find the actual file PP is looking for? (Not copy and paste) Usually if they are all living in the same folder and you find one, the rest will re-link automatically.

    Bleeping iCloud!

Apparently, since I usually keep a copy of the files on my Desktop for easy access, I didn’t think about the fact that that meant the darn folder would have been in my iCloud folder; I found all but one of the project files, but it’s luckily not one actually used in the video.

This was just me being a dumbo. Although now I’m having to re-download them from my iCloud to link them again, which is a dog.

    Either way, thanks, guys!
