Yes, either copy/paste or simply OPTION-DRAG in the timeline! No idea why you would want to use or need a compound clip.

Hate to be a stickler for detail, but are not able to open the project or the library? Have you tried starting FCP with the option-key held and opening it that way? Or opening FCP first (without the library in question), then opening whatever it is?

Simply select both and use the POSITION parameter? Either enter a Y value or click on the Y value and use the arrow keys up/down. Or even click, hold and scrub up and down.

That’s still there, too, btw. Only it is (and was) for modifying PROJECT settings, not clips.

Then either the file or project fps are different from what you describe. No idea why else it would do that.

You can batch change them via the Modify menu (second one down).

Select the 23.98 clip and select “Automatic Speed” from the Retime menu.

Which versions of FCP X and OS X are we even talking about? Nothing unusual about the disk they’re coming from?
But yes, the import of AVCHD files, whether from the camera or even the individual “naked” MTS files, haven’t been a problem for me as of 10.1. So I’m with Jeremy on that one. It must be something else.

Without 10.1 on the older iMac, the projects will of course be useless.
And I’ve personally never had a migration go wrong on me using a TimeMachine backup and the Migration Assistant. I’ve actually been amazed at how easy and well it has gone every time.
