Since you’ve synced in the timeline, you obviously won’t have the angle editor to work with. So basically: no, you can’t sync clips in the project timeline. You would have had to have made an actual synced clip or multicam clip from the various media first. With a multicam clip you could have added additional angles to cut to. At this point you could only manually sync it as a connected clip. Or make a multicam clip from it all and start over, yes.

What they did in the video is something entirely different. And they clearly knew in advance what they were going for, how to to did and shot accordingly. They just used simple monochrome colors that are easy to pull a color matte from. So unless your subject is but one color, there’s no comparison. But they will simply have cross-faded from the color matted version to the black and white version. No rocket science or key framing needed.

Try deleting your render files and exporting again without rendering in advance.

[Fulvio Pietramala] “Any advice to get this effect”
a) a locked shot
b) a masterfully Photoshopped version without the statues with a dissolve (or however else its meant to appear/disappear). -

August 1, 2014 at 4:24 pm in reply to: Dealing with size limit of the filter search window when creating Smart Collections?[Michael Angelo] “Previously I started using your method of naming favorites but discovered the favorite names DO NOT show up in the timeline index”
Ah, okay. Didn’t realize that that was relevant. It never was for me, so it never occurred to. Good point.
[Michael Angelo] “having too many keywords makes the most powerful feature of the software unusable.”
Yes, I’ve been annoyed by that, too, a few times. Forgot to report it, so I’ll have to do that now. If you haven’t already, something you’ll definitely want to do also.
[Michael Angelo] “The problem with this is that my eventual edit point is going lose this little bit of handle so I will lose the marker info in the timeline index once the material is in the timeline.”
Another good point. So you mean if and when you tighten the edit point in the timeline by those 10 frames? But then simply selecting the edit point and hitting ⇧ and , or . would give and take those 10 frames quickly as needed. Not super elegant, but possible.
[Michael Angelo] “Once again it seems like an eventual fix as EVERY OTHER type of tagging is included in timeline index and yes I’ve sent a feature request to Apple.”
I get what you mean, but I think the problem with that (and possibly Apple’s logic for NOT including it?) is, that the vast majority of people won’t be renaming the “Favorite” tag and therefore they are completely indistinguishable from each other in a list, therefore not exactly useful. But I’ll send a equal request for the few of us that DO rename them, yes. 😉
[Michael Angelo] “here are some examples of things that we should have the option to display on clips in the timeline AND in the event viewer for that matter:”
Never ever. Not things I would want to constantly have floating around. Would make for massive clutter. Something I think X has masterfully managed to circumvent in the new GUI. Most definitely one of its biggest strengths, not weaknesses IMHO. Aside from being able to find all of the above elsewhere. Be it in the Inspector and/or Timeline Index… when needed. But having the same overlays that (ironically) multicam clips have in the cameras window at least optionally in the Viewer is a long standing request of mine, yes. But again, seeing other NLEs such as PPro or Avid (or even FCP 7!) make me thank the NLE gods for not having such a visual clusterf*** in FCP. Their fugly GUIs make me shiver.

August 1, 2014 at 3:49 pm in reply to: Zoom to fit gesture, and AVCHD transcoding issue1) Have never heard of this happening. Are you sure it’s *zooming*, or is it maybe just *jumping*. That I’ve seen a lot.
2) Again, never heard of it nor have I had it myself. Which codec are you coming from?

Or go through Resolve. As you say. I didn’t realize you couldn’t have at the same time though. Otherwise you’re left with what Jeremy suggests.

August 1, 2014 at 2:59 pm in reply to: Turning a base-model 2013 Mac Pro into a monster.Having a minimum of 2GB of RAM per core is recommended, yes. You don’t say how many you have, but depending on the number of corse, YMMV. The effect will be greater the more cores you have. But I find it odd that the bg rendering of all things should show such an improvement, since that is done near exclusively on the GPU, i.e. in VRAM not in RAM.

[Craig Alan] “My biggest need is custom layouts but I guess those aren’t available yet.”
How can you not simply make them yourself as needed? The Command Editor is a pretty amazing tool as far as that’s concerned. And Apple has moved/killed a lot of the previous OS key commands that could get in your way (especially in Motion), too.
