I have never heard of a drop zone “referencing specific timecode“. A drop zone will take anything you throw at it, completely regardless of its timecode.

If your anchor point is in the middle of the cube, then that’s what it will rotate around. As with any object in Motion. If it’s rotating wrong, your anchor point is wrong. I don’t know what else to say.

The cube will obviously be a GROUP made up of 6 squares, no? Then you simply need to place the anchor point of the group in the middle of the cube (with the 3D transform tool) and then of course rotate the group.

There is no such thing as a v5.6 (yet). The most recent/current version is v5.1.2 and that should be able to open any and all existing versions of Motion documents.

It looks to me as if you also have an outline or shadow that is disappearing for whatever reason. You’ll want to check those parameters and/or the keyframe editor. And I’d say the reason you’re not seeing it with the first one is simply because the background is black.

Oh yeah… Motion is one of the COLOR difference matte-rs. Forgot about that, especially since FCP does it now, too. And again, depending on both image and most of all compression, you should be lucky to get that good of a matte with a clip. 😉 But it’s certainly less work than roto and worth a try!

I just saw registered “720” and assumed it was HD. After seeing the effect on their site, yes, I can image that the way they built it being problematic for 4:3.
Whereby, with fairly basic knowledge of Motion one could make a 4:3 version of the same (not necessarily ALL of them of course) oneself. Even as a single, not layered effect.

Transitions will automatically adjust to both resolution AND (with few exceptions and where applicable) timing. It’d be kinda silly if they didn’t, don’t ya think? 😉

That is what is called a “Difference Matte”, yes. The sloppiest form of matting by far, unless you’re using a) uncompressed footage and b) the camera is most definitely locked 100%. In which case you simply place one clip on top of the other with the top one set to the “Difference” blend mode. That will (or should, given a and b are met) a black and white matte which you in turn can use as a matte for either one after the fact.
