Hi Harlan
Just wondered, when you shot with your varicam for Discovery, who wanted 1080i,did you shoot at 60fps,I have a memory reading that 60fps was best for converting to interlaced(NTSC) if so would it also make sense that 50fps would be best for PAL interlaced? Or did you shoot someother frame rate,if so what was the thinking behind it.
Sorry a bit off the topic? Thanks

Iam no expert, but Ive used the varicam a few times now.As far as I know the 59.94Hz setting will make your 30fps setting 29.97,and the same for 24fps if you want 23.97(or what ever it is).
If you want straight 24 or 25 fps put it to 60Hz,and yes I found that 172.8 got rid of flicker in 50hz countrys at 24fps.If its just outside stuff with no lights I usualy put it back to 180.With the logic of that helping a film look.if thats what you want.
Sorry if this is wrong,if so could someone else shed light!
Thanks

Hi Matt
Thanks again for your time and advise.Checked the 5 pin out to mixer, and no buzz/hiss,so luckily seems only to be this buzz on the mini plug jack.
Camera is up for annual check up anyway,so hopefully get it sorted then
Thankyou again for your effort.Iam sure I,ll have more questions in the future!
Thanks

Forgive my ignorance!
So 60p is only slo-mo if made so in post,if not its close/the same as old regular 60i,except ofcourse 2 progressive fields rather than 2 interlaced?
Is this total bollocks,if so why?
Thanks

Hi Matt
Thanks again for helping me here.Well good news,I think!! put in a tape and recorded voice, and then recorded with camera mic volume turned right down(ie when the noise is most pronounced)
Played back in camera, with head phones from the mini jack socket.Voice recording was fine, and when volume all down some hiss ofcourse, but no buzz.
So doesnt seem to be on tape, another odd thing, when the camera is set to bars, without tone ofcourse, the hum becomes noticeably less, and then loader when bars off??????
Could this be some sort of pointer
Thanks again for your time

Yes thanks, trouble is the originals are on the other side of the world, and still no real info from them, which makes me think,as has been the case with all other so called camera problems, its a cock up at their end!
Thanks

Sorry I thought I made the point that the hum was originating from the camera, which is a Sony digibeta 790.
I have asked some tech people but they havent heard of this problem,I know hum of various kinds is not unusual from cables etc,but this is one coming from the camera.
And so I wonder what could be causing it?
Thanks for your reply and time

Thanks for the reply
Still waiting to get more info from them,I dont think a digibeta will work at all if it doesnt thread properly?
