a) Your sequence settings generally should match your footage. DVCProHD is a great codec, so working in a DVCProHD 1080i50 timeline is a great option.
b) What do you mean “for Compressor settings”? I assumed you meant for DVD, but that is your 3rd question. If you mean for a Master file, all you have to do is export out of FCP. File > Export > Quicktime Movie. Export a self-contained file at Current Settings.
C) I created a tutorial for exporting to DVD a while ago. Of course, adapt it for your PAL footage.

Your technique for turning your series of images into a video is fine.
If you’re looking for a smoother effect, when you’re shooting you should shoot with longer exposure times. Anything moving in the frame will blur, which causes a motion blur effect after you’ve converted your series of images into a video. Make sense?

Are you bringing the .motn file into FCP? Don’t do that. Export out of Motion and bring that new file into FCP.

It could be since Dropped Frames are caused by FCP not being able to retrieve data fast enough from the storage device.
We only use our Drobos for storage/backup, we don’t edit off them. Use something like a G-RAID or G-Speed for editing.

When using smooth cam, don’t just throw it on the clip in your timeline all willy-nilly. For the best results…usually…export that portion of the clip you are using in your timeline as it’s own self-contained quicktime (with one or two second handles). Then bring THAT back into FCP and apply the smooth cam filter.

There are a lot of opinions because there is no standard since it’s the web.
I generally keep my audio around -12dB. I allow loud hits to go above that, but not above -6dB.

That sounds good. I think it’s worth considering the length of the videos that need transcode, too. For instance, an 27 minute HDCam tape is $35. Maybe I would charge $35 for every file that a client wanted transcoded, and/or if the file is longer than 27 minute I’d charge $35 for every 27-minutes of video they want transcoded. Or just flat out $35 for every 27 minutes of video they want transcoded.

The video keeps suggesting Apple had 2 years, though. Wouldn’t y’all agree they had more like 4 years considering FCS wasn’t much of an upgrade to FCS2?

Well, I’ve asked myself the same question Bruno is asking, because you are just sitting there letting the computer do the work. The client should pay for your knowledge and expertise, but perhaps on a per-file basis rather than your usual hourly rate?
Don’t post houses do this with tapes? It’s just a flat rate to transfer something to tape? Why not the same for transcoding. A flat price per file. Or a flat price per XX minutes of video that has to be transcoded.
