  • Your biggest issue is getting the data from the tape to a digital file. I don’t recommend DV since it is more compressed than DigiBeta (5:1 versus 2:1), although it depends on the needs of your client.

If you could get it transfered to a Quicktime file with the MJPEG format (quality of 95%) you would get reduce the file size about 2/3 over uncompressed, and (in my opinion) it looks pretty good … much better than DV.

    Good Luck,

  • My question is what happens if you put a non-native formatted clip on the timeline (such as Quicktime with the animation codec). Will it use the PC CPU to decode as fast as it can, and show something out the Matrox card … or will it show nothing (even during scubbing) until rendered?

    Thanks,
    Robert

    Thanks for the response!

Just to clarify; are you capturing using the Premiere capture window?

And Please Do try playing back and scrubbing a non-native clip format (like Quicktime with the animation codec, which is very handy since it is lossless compression And it retains the alpha channel).

    Thanks,
    Robert

ARe you saying that you CAN capture with the Xena LH, but just don’t have machine control? I didn’t know you could do that! How about playback of the timeline wiht mixed formats?

    Thanks,

I hope you find a solution. I have PPro 1.5.1 and have the same problem, but also that PPro’s HDV output (by firewire) isn’t recognised by the Sony deck … so I can’t record to the deck. Can you?

    Thanks for your response!

Just to be clear: If you place a clip on the timeline that is not in it’s preferred format, you see Nothing out of the card during playback for scrubbing until it’s rendered?

You could make two masks: one with feathering and one without, and then combine them (such as add).

On a related note: How does one do an insert edit but Only affect the selected track. The insert command moves All tracks down. I can go in and lock all the other tracks first (then unlock after), but that’s a pain.
