  • Using Xena LH I/O card with Premiere Pro 2.0

Posted by Brent Myers on April 19, 2006 at 8:31 am

I know that Adode recommends the Xena HS card for use with Premiere Pro 2.0, but I wanted to be able to input component video into Premiere Pro 2.0. I therefore purchased the Xena LH card. The only problem I have is that the RS422 control is not working. Do anyone have any other suggestions for initializing machine control through the Xena LH card with Premiere Pro 2.0?

ARe you saying that you CAN capture with the Xena LH, but just don’t have machine control? I didn’t know you could do that! How about playback of the timeline wiht mixed formats?

    Thanks,

I haven’t tried mixed formats, but I am “crash” importing without original tape timecode from the SDI output from my DVCPRP50 machine. Also I’m using digital audio from the DVCPRO50 with two tracks. Although I have no machine control and cannot therefore batch digitize clips, the video and audio in the timeline look fantastic. I know Adobe only supports the Xena LS card for Premiere Pro 2.0, but that card does not have component inputs which I occasionaly need. The guy from AJA wants me to check back with him around the 25th of April, to see if an NAB solution has come up. For now, however the work is starting to pile up. The Xena care works great except for this machine control issue.

    Thanks for the response!

Just to clarify; are you capturing using the Premiere capture window?

And Please Do try playing back and scrubbing a non-native clip format (like Quicktime with the animation codec, which is very handy since it is lossless compression And it retains the alpha channel).

    Thanks,

    Brent,
I don’t know much about this, but I was watching the
Total Training for the PPro2.0 and in it, Jacob mentions that
there is a specific type of RS422 cable you need to use
with PPro2.0. If this cable isn’t used, then machine
control will not work. Hope this helps and wish I knew
    what manufacturer made the cable.

Yes, I am capturing from the Promiere Pro 2.0 capture window. Thanks for the other advice.
