How to insert a clip in the middle of other clips?
Hi!
I’ve been using Premiere for a pretty long time now, and I’m still wondering about a very important feature: Is it possible to drag a clip in the middle of two other clips so that the rest of the clips make room for the dragged clip (move forward). Now when I wan’t to have something in the middle of an long sequence I have to zoom out to select everything after the point where I want the new clip dragged in and then move everything forward. It’s really much work to do so, and that’s why I’m asking you guys for help! Is there any way to just simply insert a clip so that other clips move automatically forward in the timeline?

Hold down the ‘control’ key and drag the clip wherever you want it. The rest of the clips will be moved forward to make room for the new clip.

…or else position the timeline indicator (CTI) at the point you wish to insert a clip on a targeted track in the timeline. Set IN and OUT points on your clip in the Source Monitor. Press the “insert button”. or the shortcut key (“,”)

Craig and LLoyd already answered your question about inserting a clip, but in your post you also said that when you want to select all the clips from a certain point, you need to zoom out to do so. Instead of zooming out, just use the track selection tool, which selects all clips on the track from the point you click on. Hold shift to select clips from all tracks.

On a related note: How does one do an insert edit but Only affect the selected track. The insert command moves All tracks down. I can go in and lock all the other tracks first (then unlock after), but that’s a pain.

There is a keyboard shortcut (un allocated by default) for this function.
