Hey Folks,

I have put an outline style guide to using Resolve for making media for Media Composer on my website at https://www.infohou.com/Opinion.html. This first part is starting in Resolve to make media and an AAF for Media Composer. I will at some point do a similar post for the trip back even though there are many articles that cover that. Thanks to Michael Phillips for the Reel Name from Source Clip Filename tip.

I believe Scott Freeman did a detailed article here on the cow about this but he includes procedures that I have not found to be necessary.

Are the camera originals OK? Assuming you are working off of copies, I would open the camera originals in Resolve and see what they look like.

MP and Eric give good advice. You will need to make sure you have a drive system that is fast enough. DNX36 is no problem but if you create the Dailies then you will want an SAS system or get a SATA raid card and three internal drives to stripe to RAID0. Make sure you BACKUP! RAID0 is fastest but has no redundancy.

I have a 2009 Mac Pro with SAS and a Nvidea Titan video card. It can handle DCI 4K/24p without dropping frames. At least with a single video track. Quadros are not what you want as they are comparatively low on CUDA cores which is what Resolve, etc. want. Quadros are for CAD 3D or 3D compositing. Do put in at least 24GB of RAM and stay away from OS X updates. You are too far down that road already.

Of course they didn’t come up with that one I had to tell them that I found info on the net that proved this.

Oh man, sorry to read that. Having done support for many years I do understand their view. If you disable the Rocket and it works, then it is not Avid’s issue.

As you may have seen here, I am very interested in the DNxIO and some pre-release units are in some folks possession so hopefully we will see a preview soon. I am really curious about what switching I might be able to do with the front panel buttons.

With the understanding that your MBP is underpowered for Resolve, try Resolve 12 BETA 2. The playback is greatly improved.

Resolve does a lot more math than other applications.

For those unaware, what MP is referring to is that MXF is a container which has two major forms. Avid uses the OP Atom spec which keeps audio and video separate. Sony and most others use the OP 1A spec which puts the audio and video in a single file.

As mxf is a container, it can have one of several codecs. The Sony mxfs may have XDCAM style mpg2, XAVC-I/G/S, or perhaps even ProRes.

So just saying one recorded mxf’s does not tell us everything we need to know to help someone.

Sounds like a bug. I would go back to Resolve 11.

Hey Eric have you posted the errors over on the Avid MC Mac forum?

To the OP, I would advise against Yosemite as I consider it a virus. If you do decide to upgrade, I would clone your system drive to an external in case you need to go back to Mavericks.

Hope your 8.4 upgrade goes well.
