I’m planning to use MC v8.4 and I’m wonder if upgrading my Mac from Maverick to Yosemite will make it any better?
    Thanks, Avi

I’d avoid Yosemite if possible. My Late 2013 MBP 15″ Retina runs 8.4 very well on 10.9.5.

    Good Fortune,

I’m running MC v8.3.1 on a 5K iMac running OS 10.10.2 and it works just fine…

Upgraded to Yosemite to figure some tech issues.
Havent bothered to go back since its running fine.
Didnt fix my tech issues but 8.4 runs okay.
Still the odd crashes and errors but were used that since v6 😛

Hey Eric have you posted the errors over on the Avid MC Mac forum?

To the OP, I would advise against Yosemite as I consider it a virus. If you do decide to upgrade, I would clone your system drive to an external in case you need to go back to Mavericks.

Hope your 8.4 upgrade goes well.

    Y’all be cool,
    Robert

    What are your specs?
What do you have for peripherals e.g. PCI extenders, i/o, etc…
Some of these might be a factor specially if your on a new Mac Pro.

I went through the ringer with tech support on all my errors.
To date they just refer to the original issue which is the RED ROCKET not playing nice on the new Mac Pro.
Of course they didn’t come up with that one I had to tell them that I found info on the net that proved this.
They washed their hands on the situation after that basically deflecting all my questions and going back to the ROCKET.
So now we wait for the DNxIO box…rinse and repeat I hope not 😛

Oh man, sorry to read that. Having done support for many years I do understand their view. If you disable the Rocket and it works, then it is not Avid’s issue.

As you may have seen here, I am very interested in the DNxIO and some pre-release units are in some folks possession so hopefully we will see a preview soon. I am really curious about what switching I might be able to do with the front panel buttons.

    Hang in there,
    Robert

We were both in the agreement that the ROCKET was the issue.
What didn’t sit with me well is how they replied (after numerous emails) at the end of our discussion.
Basically stating that the ROCKET was never an authorized video card.
Yes it was never listed in the requirement pages but I have many docs from Avid supporting the format and card.
It was as though they copied and paste a Tech Support script.
