That all said the Element looks pretty great and I would not be mad with using that or the wave I have now.

All of the high end grading systems have dedicated panels, Baselight, Film Master, Lustre, Resolve and none of those panels will work with any other software. I had a Baselight-4 on demo a while ago, it’s great fast feature rich machine and I think I could have squeezed one out of Filmlight for somewhere in the $300K range, maybe for a demo box.
So the $30K is short money for the Panels from BMD and I really do not see any way they could even make them for $5-6K considering the build quality and volume of sales.
If one is building a room where client supervised sessions are going to happen said clients will be allot happier putting down serious cash for a more serious feeling room and whoever is driving will get more work done for that hourly charge with the dedicated panels.

I think $30k is a good deal for the BM panels I think a Blackboard is $45k and I am sure a Blackboard 2 is more. Also I think Peter said that they support three VENDORS not three Panels from third parties. The Element seems pretty nice and the Wave will probably disappear at some point so I can only imagine the newer Tangent panel will be supported at some time, it isn’t even shipping yet I believe.
Using a Wave for now….

In film you would just give the film to the projectionist and they would run a 25fps film at 24fps. For DCP you could export the film as DPX files and then import them into the DCP package as 24.00 FPS. You could render a 25FPS Quicktime and use Cinema Tools (FCP 7) to “Conform” the clip from 25.00 FPS to 24.00 FPS which is just a QT header change. Open the clip in Cinema tools and click on the conform button to to change the frame rate.

Like to see pics of that new Tangent panel… still want the Resolve desk though… I have 2K network panels and it’s not the same on the Wave….;-)

If used with a Mac-Pro they would have to be Mac cards as the Cubix is just a extender and the cards appear to the Mac as is they were in the Mac.

I know that you can right click on each clip (in the conform page, I think) and there is tool to change that clips parent directory. This does allow you to relink the media to your drives folders. I don’t know exactly how to do this globally such that you don’t have to reset each clip in the edl to the media but there must be a way to do that.

Did you click on the button that says “enable Interlacing” in the Config panel?
