    They are all 30 series Plasma panels from Panasonic and I think that makes them similar in performance. The PF panel will have slots that would allow for SDI in. The new Thunderbolt I/O from Blackmagic works with Resolve now.

  • Nobody really knows when (or if) there will be a new Mac-Pro. I would get the 17″ MBP and then plan on a Windows machine for a desktop Resolve as you will be able to take advantage of the far more powerful GPU options on the PC. The only drawback to the PC resolve is not being able to write ProRes. Apple seems not to care at all about their own “Pro” apps maybe they will see the possible advantage to making a Windows license for Pro-Res available, as it would sell.

    Cool about the EVGA I am running a P6T7 Supercomputer for my Resolve with a modified bios and a usb stick “booter” which allows for a vanilla OSX build on the boot drive. The modified bios makes the board look like an Apple EFI super clean and very stable.

    The Asus P6T7 Supercomputer has 7 potential X16 PCIe 2.0 slots but only up to 4 can be X16 at any one time.

    The EVGA board has the same PCIe specs as the Asus P6T7 both have up to 4 X16 PCIe 2.0 slots.

    They scanned all of the original neg? That’s allot of DPX frames….

    I exported Pro-Res444 and sync sound to picture in FCP and recorded to HD-CamSR for playout.

    DCP and Filmout possibly in the future…

    I just did a35mm 3-Perf finish grade from 2K DPX and I did the dailies too. The dailies were Pro-ResHQ 1080p 23.98 with a hole punch on the first “k” frame. Each dailies reel was set to 01:00:00:00 TC on the hole punch. The editor made five EDL’s one for each reel for Resolve.

    The editor also made an EDL which listed each lab roll and all of the shots on it for the Arriscan to make the scan process easier. The Arriscan was set to the hole punch and the scan EDL was loaded and the lab flats were scanned by timecode.

    I loaded the scans into my disk array and added the master folder to the media pool and added the five EDL’s into Resolve and everything came in almost 100% perfect with only a few shots that needed trims because the original edit was a bit off.

    The Asus P6T7 WS “Supercomputer” board is a stellar performer as both a hackintosh and a PC but only supports a single CPU. There is the EVGA dual board that would potentially be a screamer as a PC but as far as I know nobody has done a Mac OSX build on it…

    I think you can do it in Resolve by right clicking on the clip and getting it’s properties. There are boxes for TC there. I don’t think it changes the DPX files but just metadata in Resolve. I am not in front of my machine right now so I cannot confirm this, maybe someone who is can..

    It sure seems like Bus bandwidth on the Mac-Pro is the bottleneck to doing 4K work. The External expander boxes have only one PCIe 16x slot to share amongst all of those cards. And having at least a x8 PCI bus for a SAS array would be a must I think.

    I would think an Asus P6T7 Supercomputer with 7x 16x slots could do the lifting required wiha a fast disk array.

    Then it is just getting the Decklink 4K to work with resolve…
