Resolve Windows / Hackintosh (for now) question
Posted by Dane Cannon on October 26, 2011 at 12:12 amWould it make any sense to build a PC that I could use a Resolve Hackintosh now, and then be able to use as a Windows Resolve machine when that finally comes out (Q1 2012)? It’s not looking like there will be any new Mac Pros before the end of the year, and I’ll probably need to make a purchase before then. Honestly, it feels like a good time to jump off the Apple ship anyway. Are there motherboards that support 2 i7 processors available? Are there any motherboards that even support Thunderbolt yet?

October 26, 2011 at 12:19 amThe Asus P6T7 WS “Supercomputer” board is a stellar performer as both a hackintosh and a PC but only supports a single CPU. There is the EVGA dual board that would potentially be a screamer as a PC but as far as I know nobody has done a Mac OSX build on it…

October 26, 2011 at 5:39 amIt does not make sense to build anything now as pc gear also updates.
Just wait for Q2 and then start to build?

October 26, 2011 at 2:12 pmDane I think is not possible dual i7 cpu. You need xeon for that, at xeon prices. Thunderbolt is only for apple at least one year.
If your plan is dual cpu I recommend mac pro. But if you need dual cpu for red files, I recommend i7 hackintosh + red rocket. -

October 26, 2011 at 8:17 pmYeah, that board does look powerful, but apparently its pretty big and loud too (apparently there was a company building hackintosh ready mac pros off of that board—for $7000, they sure looked fast). I wonder if we’ll even need to stick with Intel chips. That config guide will be an interesting read.

October 26, 2011 at 8:41 pmApparently they’ve got the EVGA mobo successor already… PCI-3.0!!!

October 26, 2011 at 9:11 pmThe Asus P6T7 Supercomputer has 7 potential X16 PCIe 2.0 slots but only up to 4 can be X16 at any one time.
Look at the specs under expansion slots for slot speeds:
