  • Can I change timecode and DPX #s in Resolve?

Posted by David Smith on October 25, 2011 at 5:23 pm

    Hello everyone,

I need to change the timecode hour and DPX numbers for a folder of DPX files.

Can I do this in Resolve? Or do I need another program?

If I need another program – can someone recommend one that is simple to use and possibly a free download?

    Thanks!

If you bring up a DPX sequence in Browse window, select it in the Clip Details, and use “Change Source Timecode in Header.” That should rewrite the timecode in the file (as opposed to “change timecode” in the media pool which won’t write anything into the file).

I think it cannot be undone…

It shouldn’t change the filenames, but you can use Automator for that if you’re on a Mac.

I think you can do it in Resolve by right clicking on the clip and getting it’s properties. There are boxes for TC there. I don’t think it changes the DPX files but just metadata in Resolve. I am not in front of my machine right now so I cannot confirm this, maybe someone who is can..

Name Mangler is a decent tool for batch rename operations in Mac OS. Does sequential rename, search and replace in filenames, and a bunch more.

Thanks for the replies and the info!

I did a test and was able to change the TC and renumber the files. I’m preparing to do the large folder of DPX now after making a backup copy.

    Thanks again!
