Did you grade in Rec-709? or Log?
You can usually get away with a 709 grade and have the lab translate it into the film print. This is the easy way but is not the best way.
To do it right you would want a Film Print LUT which was made from a calibrated film recorder shootout and print from the lab. Doing this will “close loop” the whole color management system and take into account the recorder, the internegative stock, the print stock, printing and film processing for the lab you are using.

1. Who wants to work on a single GPU machine? Not me for one…
2. While software NR can be better it is slow as hell and sometimes you need to fix something and on a deadline.
3. Lite is basically a free assist station for the full version.
4. I think BMD will have more pro features in the full version soon, things like OFX plugin support, etc.
5. I would not trade Resolve 8 for Speed Grade or Scratch it is a great vary stable color app and keeps getting better.
6. Not everyone wants to be a colorist, hardly anyone who used FCP regularly ever even opened Color.

I hate to say it but I think the Mac-Pro (and just about anything “pro” is dead at apple unless it runs on a phone or pad) is going to vanish.
I guess my only question about Resolve on Wintel is if it will read Pro-Res? I assume yes and that you could have a shared database on a Mac machine and use a second machine to write Pro-Res.

All of the other grading apps (Films Master, Baselight, etc.) are also software. I wouldn’t buy a Scratch system over Resolve because it’s not as good (IMO) and does not have it’s own panels. Watch what happens with Adobe I bet CS6 has a grading app included.
this is what happens with computers, things which start out exotic and hard to do with computers become easy and more accessible with each generation of computing performance improvements.
Even Resolve Lite is not that cheap, you still need a panel, I/O and a monitor to do anything worth a damn with it and those three will run you $6-10K without the computer and software license.

The Dreamcolor will not cover the full P3 color-space, but I would think that running it in P3 mode will be closer than in 709.
The DVI connection limits you to 8-bits I believe, whereas if you ran a HD-Link PRO Display Port you could get 10-bits. A friend had a DreamColor with a Gefen box which ran Display Port to the Dreamcolor and it was 10-bit and pretty calibrate-able.
You should grade in full range.

HP has a probe that is for the Dreamcolor, I thin it is a re-badged X-Rite i1 and it plugs into the Dreamcolor. This calibration route is mostly for use as a computer display (i.e. Photoshop, etc.) and is not just a basic calibration.

Made bad, out of focus, clipped highlight, jellocam pictures with flat color?
Couldn’t resist… and yes I have used the 7D and 5D to shoot spots, I think they are basically junk video cameras.
The D3 is better than the older probes in it’s price range but it is still not even close to the accuracy of the Hubble. The big problem is not necessarily the probe though.
The consumer / ISF software solutions (Cal-Man, Chromapure, etc.) do not really do extensive profiling of displays and don’t make 3D LUT’s. They basically tell you how best to adjust the display’s internal controls, which only get you so far. Or they work with a consumer video processor like the DVDo which works well for hi end home theater installs but I don’t think the profiling is very extensive by professional broadcast / film standards.
A real Color Management System (Light-Space, True-Light, Cine-Space) will extensively profile a display, and it takes hours. When I calibrated my 11-UK (I use Light-Space) I used the most extensive calibration setup and it took 9 hours to run all of the DPX frames for the Hubble and Light-Space to read. I was then able to make a 3D lut which was within 98% of REC-709 and had accurate grey scale tracking.
The end result is a display that I feel I can trust, and the corrections I have done on this have translated well in other post environments and on higher end display devices like 2k cinema projectors.
I am not saying to go without any calibration, just that the consumer probe and software can only get you so far so be aware of the limitations of that approach.

I would recommend profiling the Dream-Color with a probe and a color management package and then building a P3 display LUT for it.
How are you feeding the HP? 10-Bit SDI to a converter then to the display port? The HD-Link-Pro and Davio boxes can accept 3D LUT’s or you can load the 3D LUT as a display LUT in Resolve.
I would output DPX frames which will then have to be put into a DCP package for compression to DCI compliant Jpeg-2000’s with encryption, etc.
