I downloaded the Baselight plugin for Final Cut 7 and it is pretty nice, not a full grading system but a very advanced CC in a plugin. According to the Film-Light web site they are developing an Avid version. I think this might be an interesting option in the future if you wanted to add more advanced grading within the Avid environment.

April 6, 2012 at 9:08 pm in reply to: Match HVX200 with EX3, any advice?

The HVX is basically a SD camera but it does have nice organic color, the EX will be sharper but it tends to have a flatter color profile and I think a kind of yellowish tint. If it were me I would start with the HVX and maybe sharpen it a bit then lay in some EX3 shots and see where you need to push them to match color.

  • Basically what everyone else said and an Arriscan or Northlight etc. scanner will take a 25fps EDL and just scan the frames to DPX per reel based on that EDL. Then you can conform and color in 25fps or conform in 25fps and play in 24fps.

April 3, 2012 at 2:19 am in reply to: x8 Raid card in x4 Slot?

Having the card running at 4X will not damage it in any way it just throttles the bandwidth to and from the card. It will not effect how the card interfaces with the drives in the array at all. 4X Bandwidth is still pretty big and you may find that the drives are still the limiting factor.

That looks like an old link or FAQ that never got updated, check the config guide for current recommended hardware.

Are you looking at the newest sheet? The 4800 is an old slow card by today’s standard. The GTX580 is listed as the fastest card in the build guide currently, I think.

I would try pulling everything out of the Cubix and see if the Panic persists, if so then you probably have a bad Cubix. If not then put the GPUs back in one at a time until you find the bad one.
