I have been using NTFS Mac on several machines with excellent glitch free results for months now and Mac-Drive on several windows machine without any trouble either. It is good to know that mac-Drive seems to work well on a Raid. I am thinking about a dual boot rebuild of my current machine on the Asus Supercomputer board and it would be nice to have a single raid which works for both OS boots. Too bad both NTFS and HFS+ are older filesystems.

The 680 is a great card But I don;t know if you really need it for a 8-bay box. Highpoint has some newer SAS cards I would look at which might allow you to stretch the budget a bit and fill the casr with drives.

Enterprise drives alone are going to run $1500.00 not including enclosure or card. Do you have a eSata enclosure now? port multiplier? I think Sonnett tech has a Thunderbolt adapter but anything Thunderblt is going to break your bank right now.

Yeah that is where I am headed, I have been using Scopebox 2.0 on the Telecine suites for a looong time and really like Scopebox 3.0 plus it is an excuse to get a Ultrastudio 3D Thunderbolt for my 17″ MBP.
I am going to use the laptop for scopes until I get either a Mac-Mini or more likely a little Hackintosh with a Decklink 4K together for it.

I also think it would be great if the COW had some sticky threads which answer all of the basic hardware questions.
i.e.
Q: “I got a six year old G4 power book, why can’t I grade my 4K feature film on it with Resolve??” A: “You can’t… holds head in hand and weeps softly”

Wow that board looks really nice I have had really good luck with the Asus P6T7 WS “supercomputer” board I have and have been thinking about rebuilding it as a dual boot Lion and Win-7.
I am pretty skeptical about a new Mac-Pro and have thought that the current line from Apple is severely weak for a while.
