  • Match HVX200 with EX3, any advice?

Posted by Daniel Landau on April 6, 2012 at 7:46 pm

On a very short notice I am about to be sent some footage shot on HVX200 and on EX3 that I´ll have to match.

Since I don´t have yet the material to work on, I wonder if anyone has had any experience on that matching and could give me some advice and tips.

    1. What are the clues to look into?
    2. Would it be better to use the HVX shots as the base and match the EX3 to it?
    3. I believe the EX3 will be sharper, what about contrast and color bias?

Any suggestion and advice is very wellcome.
    Thanks in advance.

The HVX is basically a SD camera but it does have nice organic color, the EX will be sharper but it tends to have a flatter color profile and I think a kind of yellowish tint. If it were me I would start with the HVX and maybe sharpen it a bit then lay in some EX3 shots and see where you need to push them to match color.

    Great stuff Robert,

Although 960×720, I wouldn´t consider the HVX to be SD, but yes, I think it is a great path to sharpen it a bit and then using it as a base to rise the colors on the EX3 and go from there.

Let´s see if by any chance someone else jumps in with a diferent approach.

    Many thanks,
