Sorry Tyler, we don’t have this problem anymore. I am currently running FCP 7.0.3 – not sure if that helped the situation or not.

I don’t export from FCP anymore. I run my sequence through Compressor and the audio guys reference picture from that. We also do mostly :30 commercials so drifting sync over time isn’t an issue for us.

You can add a time code window burn in Compressor to you QT for the audio guys. That might aid in finding sync issues.

    Hope that helps…Good luck.

I think the speed effects should be the responsibility of the editor who gets your graded material. I grade for FCP and Avid systems at my facility and each NLE treats speed effects differently.

Also if there are revisions to the edit, they have the original non sped up clip graded (usually with handles) to trim with.

I usually remove any speed effects from clips and grade them at their normal frame rate. This approach helps when doing tracking especially. Much easier to track something that isn’t flying around at high speed!

I will put these clips on their own video layer or at the end of the sequence and reconform them to their proper location / speed effect back in FCP.

Double click any still you have saved and then change the reference mode (under View menu) to offline and you will see the offline instead of the still. In the conform page you need to make sure you have assigned a clip to be the “offline”. (Pulldown next to the name of the session). Also when you import the offline movie into the media pool you have to right click on it and select Add as Offline clip.

In the Conform tab, you can select a shot on the timeline and then find the clip you would like to replace it with in the Media Pool, right click and choose force conform selected clip to session. This might be the best thing since you have done most of the work already. I believe the clip you want to replace and the original clip need to share the same TC. That is how it does the force conform. (Based off matching TC)

I would recommend using an edl from the Avid and bypass going through FCP. You can import the edl directly into Resolve without any problems. One thing to be check is the edl creation. With RED footage the edl must have the 16 character option selected when using EDL manager. Hope that helps

  • You are correct in regards to the Create Session with Handles option, however any windows that have been tracked stop tracking at the point of the new handles. THe solution is to continue the track forward and backwards. This removes the “pop”.

Yes, grade first. It also helps for vignettes and tracking, because you are working off the clip at it’s original speed.
