Hi Jeff, that’s about what I figured re. color space. So far we have been delivering 4.2.0 and had no complaints. But I’m always looking to improve IQ and will try a 4.2.2 sample with the station for compatibility. Thanks for the confirmation.

I did a test using Compressor and feel very happy with the results. Render time on 30 minute episode was around 90 minutes for a two stage process. I decided to make a 1080i @ 25fps version first, so that we had an HD version should it be needed down the road. That took around 60 minutes, the final down-conversion about 15 minutes.

Sorry, I should have said in the canvas and viewer. Don’t have a monitor output at the moment. I did a quick test export of a few seconds and on the output file in a QT window the flicker was not apparent. So I am assuming it was something in FCP. But I’d still like to know if this is a known issue.
One other thing, all the camera feeds were synced to T/C, but there are about 1 frame errors across the audio tracks, not always noticeable on the cuts but sometimes you can hear it. Visually, I can see it on lip sync, others cannot (but then I’ve spent a long time in QC).

May 11, 2009 at 4:51 pm in reply to: Best practice setup with an MBP….

Let me put some flesh on our situation.
There are numerous speaker events around the world, all shot on a 2 or 3 camera setup. The cams are XDCAM EX 1080p 30fps. Each camera will produce approximately 60 minutes of video each speaker. The material is then edited down to ~45 minutes.
Up to now, one person has been struggling event by event, mostly ingesting the video from the tapes herself and producing a final edit for uploading to a website.
More editors are needed, but they cannot all be at the events, collecting the video from the camera ops.
What would be a good workflow here.
Would it be simplest to convert the video to a compressed format that FCP can handle comfortably, upload to a secure server and the editor download to MBP. Then as the edit progresses, can the project file be emailed to the main editor for checking etc, since if they have the identical originals, it’s a matter of reconnecting media.
Or maybe, if the final product goes to web, is there a suitable codec that can be edited down and uploaded ready for the web site?
Lots of questions, thanks to all who can help!!

I know someone who uses a radio mic on the couple to get the vows etc and another handheld radio mic to get interviews and ambient sounds. You can put each mic on a separate track.

Peli type case? I have a G5 and I have been thinking the same thoughts. I thought maybe a foam/cordura construction would work, but I then realised a hard shell case would be the best. There are some nice cases on wheels made by Peli et al. If you come across something email me, I’d be interested.

    Hi
I saw a thread like this in Apple forums, was it you?
I was running 10.4.3 and prior to upgrade to 10.4.4 I thought to do a full permissions and disc check. Running the DU on the startup disc in verify only I got a whole bunch of errors, then when I started off the restore disc and used that DU everything got fixed nice and easy. Maybe try the restore disc DU.

Over at barefeats.com they have some comparitive reports on the various PCIe cards using different applications. Well it seems that the performance hit on the 6600 vs 7800 is only 23%. For me that wasn’t enouh of a difference, at least for the kind of jobs I do. I am sure others have a different viewpoint.
