I have the OWC 480 as a boot drive and its quick. Launching resolve is about 2-3 seconds on the SSD on old traditional drive it was 10-12 seconds. Just makes the OS and GUI feel snappy. I agree though as media storage it just crazy stupid expensive. I have a 32 TB Fibre Array that is direct connect that if SSDs would be 20k for less storage!

[Rohit Gupta] “The render file name is part of the project data, and either you export the XML, or you save the project, before you load the next project. Else the exported XMLs won’t carry the new file name for the render when you reload the project.”
I think this might be my issue rohit – but it my case it doesn’t seem to be with the XML just the render after originally rendering and exporting the XML to FCP. When I come back into the project in Resolve and IF I use the FCP Roundtrip Preset and render a clip it replaces the existing clip on disk and FCP reconnects to it just fine.
However if I choose none in the preset so I can use the render queue and render those changes even though Resolve tells me I’ll be overwriting the existing clip on disk its writing a new clip with a new name and not overwriting the file it should be (with the original name)
I have a show tomorrow that I’m going to be making some changes to. I’m going to test this out again to see if it wasn’t just a one time thing or I’m just nuts (entirely possible btw).
As a feature request it would still be great after rendering a show to have a flag of some sort on a clip to show a change since the last time its been rendered or a button the render page to render only changed clips since the last render.

thanks guys – I’ve tried this method and it works. The issue I guess Is that I’ve just graded most of the film with out the blank node and at this point its a pain to go back. Next time!

[Jonathon Lee] “he ultra scope and also add a logging mode! So you could generate a report… have it rip through your timeline, then spit out a text file. Make a leader or tek scope unnecessary.”
Well Ultrascope 1.5 already has logging, in my opinion what Ultrascope needs regardless if its in Resolve or not is some sort of RGB gamut scope ala diamond display or Harris eye pattern. Granted those are patented displays I’m sure the brian trust at Blackmagic could come up with a way of visualizing RGB upper/lower gamut issues other then a parade.
As a bonus a lightening type display would also be useful.

August 2, 2011 at 12:12 am in reply to: What version(s) of Snow Leopard does DaVinci Lite work with?the conflict is simply that Resolve will hang on to the output of the decklink -so you can’t just saw switch back and forth between fcp and resolve and have the deckling update – easy fix is to just close one app or the other.

yeah thats what I’m saying but more specfically if I render out initially with Round Trip chosen. Then when I come back and want to make some changes and want to utilize the render queue I have to change it none. With all other settings the same I’d expect to get the same name of the file so it could just be automatically relinked in FCP. In my experience the rendered file without the round trip option selected as a different name.
Not in front of now but monday I’ll detail what the exact name difference is

[Stuart Ferreyra] “I’ve thought about the Resolve panel. A LOT. And to be honest, I am not spending $30K on a panel. The industry is going through drastic changes and I don’t want to end up with an expensive discontinued tool in 2 or 3 years. I have learned my lessons. I won’t do it. When the dust settles I’ll give it another thought or maybe something else will be out ;)”
I hear you man! It was a tough pill to swallow but thats also a reason we leased the panels we have to so at the end of 3 years we can return them and move on to the next thing or keep them if they’re still going strong. My rational was that there are still plenty of 2k panels out there being used and those have been work horses for nearly a decade. So I felt the panels are a little more ever green than say a monitor.
I will say I don’t regret getting the big panels one bit. From the ooooooh ahhhh factor with a new client in the suite to how much faster they allow me to work they’re worth every penny in my opinion.
I feel much like you do though but with decks. We need another SR deck and it kills me those things are 80k that purchase feels like me trading my kids college fund.

yep the render queue is locked for some reason when doing a roundtrip. I’m curious if you’ve noticed file naming differences between “none” and “roundtrip”. After working on show and rendering I’ll often go back and make some changes – obviously I want to add the changes to render queue but can’t as you point out with the FCP roundtrip preset so I change it to none – then make sure all other settings are the same including the option for a unique file name. In my experience the rendered file is not being called the same thing (sorry not in front of it right now) and so after making the changes FCP won’t automatically reconnect to the overwritten changed file.
Are you not experiencing that? If not something funky is going on with my system.
