I’m looking to build out a Resolve Mac I want to get a 8 core 12g ram machine with 2 Nvidia 4000 gpu cards. My question has to do with apples SSD 512gb drives, are they faster then the 7200rpm hard drives. would I get better proforamance.

The SSD drives are allot faster than a 7200rpm drive, and you could potentially put the SSD boot disk in a optical drive space and then use all four trays for media storage.

Just get a Ssd bootdrive and get a external sata raid. Gspeed with sata card for example. Much more for money. Ssd for storage is still too expensive.

I get 150 mb/s from my Western Digital FASS Caviar Black and they are 2 TB.
    For 200 bucks..
SSD is nice, but not worth it in a non mobile environment I think.
So get the cheapest thing Apple offers, then go online and buy some performance gear.

A 40 gig SSD is only 88 bucks and would be plenty for a boot drive and several apps.

I have the OWC 480 as a boot drive and its quick. Launching resolve is about 2-3 seconds on the SSD on old traditional drive it was 10-12 seconds. Just makes the OS and GUI feel snappy. I agree though as media storage it just crazy stupid expensive. I have a 32 TB Fibre Array that is direct connect that if SSDs would be 20k for less storage!
