In case you are using a Matrox RT.X10 or RT.X100 card please check this Adobe Encore DVD forum thread: DVD Error -47001, on Bafta Award winning short…

If you are not using one of those Matrox cards I would suggest to try re-installing Encore.

It isn’t normal, but it can happen. Things you can do to make your DVDs as compatible as possible:

    • Keep the maximum MPEG-2 bit rate at 7Mb/s and let Encore convert the audio to Dolby Digital (AC3).
    • Use good quality brand name DVD-Rs like Maxell or Verbatim. (Not everything that has a brand name is good quality, e.g. Memorex DVD-Rs are usually pretty bad.)
    • Keep your burner’s firmware up to date. Firmware updates contain new and improved “burning strategies” for specific media.
    • Burn at 1x speed. If you must burn faster, do so at 2x or 4x, but not at 8x. There are very few burner/media combinations that produce usable results at 8x.
    • Never use adhesive labels. Sticky labels will cause the number of read errors to shoot up. If you want to label your DVDs, use a CD/DVD capable (inkjet) printer and printable DVD media.

If you got a wide video as source, yes. 🙂

You could try the Photoshop “deflickerator” action available at adobeevangelists.com: Adobe Encore DVD.

If possible in AVID I would suggest to export a whole frame (both fields) with deinterlacing. If AVID can’t deinterlace the image for you, use Photoshop or something similar to do do that.

Although I can’t imagine how, it could be that exporting to PSD somehow retains the field structure of the video. To avoid this you could try exporting as TIFF or a low compression JPEG.

    Miguel,

It would help if you would add some more detail to your questions…

And as you are probably rather new to DVD authoring, these tutorials may be useful:

[Miguel] “how can i made a dvd with menu and chapters and subs using a xvid or divx movie !?”

If you mean a DVD-Video disc with DivX instead of MPEG, the answer is that you can’t. The DVD specification only allows MPEG-2 and MPEG-1 video with very specific parameters.

If you want to use DivX or Xvid video as a source in Encore, I would recommend to convert it either to DV AVI or a DVD compliant MPEG-2 file before importing in Encore. And preferably do the conversion on a different computer as having DivX and similar codecs installed can cause problems in Encore.

  • Nichole,

The jittering is probably caused by in incorrect field order (field dominance) setting in the MPEG encoder. If you encoded previously with a “top field first” setting, try encoding again as “bottom field first” and vice versa.

Additionally to avoid set top player playback problems, I would suggest to use a maximum bit rate setting for the MPEG-2 video of no more than 7Mb/s and to use A.Pack to convert the audio to Dolby Digital (AC3) at 192 or 224Kb/s.

You could try to change the 16:9/4:3 flag of the MPEG-2 file with the help of ReStream. This won’t re-encode the MPEG, but just change its aspect ratio flag.

I would suggest to import the “restreamed” video in a new project to avoid a possible problem with Encore using old information about its properties.

  • You can’t make the actual button swing, but you could create the entire sign with text as part of the video of the motion menu background. As subpicture highlight (to indicate which button is selected) you could use some (stationary) graphical object like a box, a crosshair, something like that.
