Yes, I’ve had ‘Flow’ fail me on certain projects without any adjustment layer.

Can’t work out what factor breaks it, but will look at that MorphCut as a backup so thanks for the pointer.

Am I just having a senior moment?

I’ve been editing with FCPX since it came out, and I am certain the video quality options have always been there for flow transitions, and I would sometimes select frame blending or choose optical flow depending on which looked best.

Even if I’ve somehow misremembered this (and I use FCPX nearly every day so seems unlikely), I’m sure that something has definitely changed recently, because transtions that looked OK on a rendered film, are now looking clunkier on a second version.

Something about flow has stopped functioning, and I’m desperate to find a fix because what used to work brilliantly in interviews is now looking clunky and amateur.

Great. Thanks for the swift reply. Perfect.

  • Yes was doing the K-L thing, but it’s def slower than half speed. Thanks.

  • Ah yes, thank you.
I’d got as far as ‘Open Clip’, but couldn’t see how to change the frame rate (hence looking at the opened clip in the inspector).

By selecting both the video and audio and then retiming at 50%, I can then close that clip and go back to my timeline, but the clip will now play slow in the browser, which is what I wanted, and I can mark up favs and keywords while seeing it at half speed.

A bit of a faff, but the other comments above explain some of the issues why this might not be so simple technically.

    Thanks.

  • I’m a bit confused by what I’m supposed to be able to do by using ‘Open Clip’. When I open clip and pull up ‘General’ rather than ‘Basic’ parameters on the info, the 50fps frame rate is still baked in and not a changeable value (unlike name, reel, scene, take, camera angle, and even LUT etc).

So not sure what you mean by “Open Clip” and change it there.

Also, I can’t see any way to mark favourites and keywords etc using the ‘Open Clip’ timeline.

I feel like I’m missing a point here?

  • Sorry to jump on this thread, but title seemed to suggest this might be a good place to air a quirk on 10.4.5 that I’m having.
When I set up a project to export, on the sharing/description box I often find that commas don’t appear in the text, even if I cut and paste from a text document (as well as if I try to type it in).
Deeply annoying if I’m doing any sort of lengthy description.

Thanks Doug. I’d forgotten all about the share/info page, and that sorts out the issue perfectly. I don’t know the reasoning behind Apple changing the export dialogue page so it no longer keeps info, but I can see from what you say that it’s good to have both possibilities depending on your workflow, so thanks for clarifying the current difference.

Hopefully this is the right thread to mention a couple of bugs that are annoying me.

First, the colour choice palette. I used to have some often used colours laid out a ceratin way in the the little palette boxes. Now, colours shift along (a bit like the primary timeline), so they all fill up from the start. It’s only a small issue, but I was really used to picking a particular orange in the bottom right box, and now it’s mixed in with similar colours, having moved.

Second, and much more annoying – on export, once I’ve filled in a title, description and tags for my default 1080 export of a project, if I tweak the edit and re-export, I used to have all that stuff still filled in. Since upgrading to 10.4.4 (I skipped a couple of upgrades, so this may have happened in an earlier version too), I find that after my tweaks, when I go to export, it’s gone back to the project name (rather than my chosen export name), and the tags and description are the default stuff. This is a real pain as sometimes I fill in a decent lengthy description ready for posting etc. Now I have to keep anything I create as a separate text file.

Is anybody else recognising these issues?

On the plus side, am loving the comparison viewer, yes.

  • i’m imagining (fantasising?) a plug-in applied to a single adjustment layer and then type the whole of the VO into a text field in the plug-in, and use maybe a keystroke to mark the points at which each next word should appear. these could then appear as ‘next word’ control points for any later timing adjustments.
