  • A bit more info:

If I try relinking one of the missing files, it tells me it’s expecting it to be in an event I created called “Projects” which is where I’ve put all the original projects from the smaller libraries.

So, I locate the large library in the ‘relink’ dialogue, it appears to find and verify the file, so I press relink, and it still appears missing 🙁

  • A quick update. The orange lines DO sometimes appear for a while on restarts. Would I be right in thinking that this suggests a bug or a problem with a particular installed plug-in rather than a preferences issue (which wouldn’t have them working sometimes but not others?). And yes, I’ve checked and rechecked that I’m not looking at the wrong project when it happens.

  • Frank: This has happened over several projects and restarts unfortunately.

Jeremy: I hate trashing prefs because I’ve got everything set up how I like it, but I fear I may have to try this.

Joe: Yes, I know it’s easy to be caught out on this, but I’m definitely in the project I should be seeing the ‘used’ lines.

Do you know whether the free version of frame.io allow this, or will there be limitations?

Doh – even simpler for me – I have an older laptop running something pre-Mojave – it might even be Mountain Lion! – just didn’t think of running the xml file over to that – in my head I just felt it had to be all on the one machine – so obvious now you mention it. Thanks.

I wanted to try this software as I’m having some probs with lost plug-ins while opening older projects, but it looks like it might be broke now for FCPX 10.14.10 and/or Mojave?

I get the following warning message when trying to launch:
” “doesn’t understand the “<<event XML Indt>>” message. (-1708)

  • Sorry maybe my problem wasn’t really clear.

I’m trying to open and then update old libraries so they will all run on current 10.4.10 version.

It looks like anything from 10.2 upwards will automatically update if I open the older library in 10.4.10, so I won’t actually need to install FCPX3 at all.

However, I have some really old stuff edited in a 10.1.X version with the original folder structure of Projects and Events, and I can’t see any way to open those in 10.4.10

So I was hoping I could install 10.2.3 on same machine just to update these to FCPX2 library format and then open them in 10.4.10 and update that way (my original question was to see if there’d be any problem in doing this).

But now, on doing a bit more research to clarify the issue, I see that 10.2.3 won’t actually run on High Sierra and above, and I’m on Mojave, so that solution isn’t going to happen anyway.

There’s no way of opening those early libraries on a current system is there?

Looks like I have to try and get hold of an older operating system, install that onto some external drive, install 10.2.3 on that and get the Project/Event folders updated into libraries.

What a horrible lack of backward compatibility. Anyone got a quicker fix?

  • Thanks. Nice simple software. I realised the problem was probably frame rate as original was 30fps and I’m working FCPX in PAL 25fps. So using Handbrake I did a quick conversion to .mp4 at 25fps – quality seems good, sound is there, and FCPX is playing nice.

    I love this forum!!
