Very close but something new for me. Not quite but a very nice keyboard shortcut for sure.

I have read that desk is the darling of the Mac community for years.

Personally I went Lesvik (sp?) for a dark hard wood look and that’s worked well for me. Totally different theme, tho. Good quality.

[Tom Wolsky] “Unfortunately there is no kerning function in LiveType. It’s due to the way the text is constructed making glyphs into separate objects.”

OK, Livetype calls it Tracking and it’s definitely there. I can highlight a letter and adjust the kerning/tracking post-letter with my mouse. Just looking for a keyboard shortcut equiv.

Perhaps I’m wrong with my semantics: I want to manually tweak the spacing between letters like A and W, for example.

[Matte] “In most Mac text programs just put the cursor between letters, hold down the “option” key and tap the left and right arrow keys.”

That doesn’t work in Livetype and not in Textedit. Am I doing something wrong?

I thought I saw someone nudging the kerning with some sort of keystroke perhaps it was the Boris program…

There is nothing on the PC that can match Motion as far as ease-of-use and templated presets.

Your only choice is to roll your own with After Effects and take the learning curve heat.

There are canned effects in Motion and Livetype I can’t imagine how I’d recreate by hand in AE. Downside, the Apple suite can be difficult to modify so you tend to notice the same canned effects.

  • [Matte] ” but I’ve never heard of someone saying that pasting a track to both channels “sounds better””

You know what it doesn’t make sense but that seems to be the case. In my edits I often hear my clients refer to ‘doubling up a track’ and in their minds its better so I gave up on that one.

Personally I perceive it as normalizing or just turning it up. But perhaps there’s something boosted in doubling up that’s overlooked when you crank it.

It’s a subtle difference, I admit it may be an urban/edit myth, but it works for me. 🙂

May 31, 2005 at 9:09 pm in reply to: Capture > Eject tape hot key?

Not only would it be nice to have it as a button, but Discreet Edit gives you the option to ‘Eject Tape on Tape Change’ in batch capture. It asks you for the next tape and in the time it takes you to swivel your seat the tape is ejected. Saves like only a microsecond but its’ classy.

  • The Digisuite (totally discontinued but available on ebay with Discreet Edit or Premiere) does excellent chroma keys in real time. I’ve used it for chroma key jobs for years.

  • [Martin Baker] “You’re talking about scaling the waveform up visually without affecting it’s volume yeah? Unfortunately there isn’t a way to do this, good feature request though.”

Yes. Sounds like I’m not the only one to ask for this. Thanks, all!
