Sorry to reply to my own post but here’s some additional new news. I was on the apple site and it seems that many many people are experiencing this phenom of the text looking like there is an interlace thing going on. The only workaround anyone has come up with in versions before 5.2 is to turn all field dominance off. This is bringing up a whole other set of problems and does not always work.

Still no luck. I’m still seeing a squish on the hieght and an overall blur when playing. When I stop the playhead than everything is looking good. It almost looks like the field dominance is off, but when I have tried all the upper instead of lower same things going on.

    Very frustrating.

    Hi Duncan,

I am a bit confused. As I understand FCP is working in RGB correct? I would use the high precision YUV if importing text created elsewhere or am I indeed creating YUV when using Boris’ titler?

    Thanks,

    Hi Walter and everyone,

Thanks for the reply. Yes I am using Boris’ 3D titler and indeed it is better than apples text. Here’s what I’m seeing. Nice crisp text when still. After rendering when I play the text compresses in hieght a bit and blurs out, in an unhelpful way. I have gone into the video processing tab, as Duncan suggested, and fooled around with that a bit all to no avail. Also had a suggestion that in the motion tab, if I had moved the title to make sure I had moved it to an even number, still no difference. Evan tried to not reposition, and again a squish and blur happens.

Any help would still be greatly helpful. I do have AE but would love not to have to go out in every instance, especially for check copies.

    Thanks,

    Matte,

Yes indeed I had moved the titles. That cleared things up quite a bit. Thank you. I also started an experiment with building them in Photoshop. This does seem quite a bit clearer. As someone who seems to have done this quite a bit in FCP and Photoshop do you have a normal build routine you follow? ie text smooting, rasterizing etc.

    Thanks again,
    Rich

    Hi Matte,

Thanks for the advice on using Title 3D. I have built a bunch of titles but after viewing them they are really of poor quality. Even though everything is set to highest quality and I am going out of my Kona-2 card component the letters sometimes are falling apart, even in the larger font sizes. I tried to click the 1:2:1 diflicker button, not sure exactly what this does and doesn’t look any different from not using it. Some of the titles almost look as if I was using a lower resolution setting. Any suggestions or is the quality you get the quality you get? I’m just fading up and down so there are no moves being empoyed, pretty simple stuff. Just the first time I’m doing it inside FCP.

    Thanks again,

  • Hi Peter,

As far as I can tell the camera’s were set to freerun, the timecodes are correct on the tapes and when I line up all the camera angles the picture is off even though the time code matches. While on the phone with AJA and reviewing the shooters notes I noticed they shot in non-drop frame. AJA thought this may be the problem. I am wondering if I can solve this by duplicating and changing the capture frame rate to 30 fps instead of 29.97 since there seems to be no NDF 8 bit beta setting? Just a thought. At this point I am about to run a few tests with a visual TC burn on the capture to see if I can see a discrepency? I matched visually a few of the clips and they are off 1:45:11 and another is 1:42:21. Pretty large discrepency in my book. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated becuase at this point I may be pullin an all nighter to redig all the footage.

    Thanks again for the response.

  • Hello everyone,

I just heard from AJA. The long and short of this is that it is only 48 KHz. but apparently if you have a sequence set to 48 and you through in a 44.1 the timing won’t change, which I thought it would. The 44.1 will play out of the system at 48 KHz though.

    Thanks again everyone.

    Take care,
    Rich

Hi Bill or anyone with news,

I have the Kona2 and an IOLA as opposed to the IO. Can I gain the same functionality as IO users?

    Thanks,

    Hi everyone,

Just traveling with my laptop and learning FCP. Because I am traveling I don’t have an external monitor hooked up on the laptop. When I use the de-interlace filter in gets rid of the double image caused by the 2 fields but when I render the two fields and in this case two hands are back when their should be one. Tried upper, lower and even went into the flicker modes of the adjustments. No luck. Any suggestions or am I just seeing a double image on my laptop.

    Thanks
    Rich Sims
