WHen creating a freeze frame from a video clip it looks great in teh view. but when i pull it down to the timeline and then print to tape it always has a part of the picture that is jumpy or moving. It looks like it is useing the next frame of video as well. Is there a way around this?

NTSC video uses 2 interlaced fields for each frame of video. When you try to capture a still you need to use FCP’s de-interlace filter before the jumping around problems cease. Or you can export the frame out of FCP and into Photoshop and use that program’s de-interlace filter as well. Then import back into FCP.

    Don is correct.

Also, if you where using an EXTERNAL VIDEO MONITOR (and not just the computer screen) for quality checks during your edit (as is recommended by Final Cut Pro) you would be able to SEE the frame-jitter BEFORE you exported to the final product.

An external video monitor very useful and highly recommended for checking actual image QUALITY. The Canvas on the FCP computer screen is designed to be limited quality (for reasons of computer processing power) and it can’t show you details such as true color, contrast, resolution and image-jitter.

    Hi everyone,

Just traveling with my laptop and learning FCP. Because I am traveling I don’t have an external monitor hooked up on the laptop. When I use the de-interlace filter in gets rid of the double image caused by the 2 fields but when I render the two fields and in this case two hands are back when their should be one. Tried upper, lower and even went into the flicker modes of the adjustments. No luck. Any suggestions or am I just seeing a double image on my laptop.

    Thanks
