Not to mention that Lion is an OS that has an uncertain future on the desktop. Actually the Mac Pro towers are in jeopardy.

We are just getting ready to pull the switch to Snow Leopard from Leopard on 6 edit systems with FCP and CS 5.5. Feel like I’m a decade behind.

Good to see Avid has stepped up to support the IP cards however.

Great. For 1920 x 1080 30p footage what sequence setting on the Mac and PC would be preferred? Remember CS4 on PC CS 5.5 on Mac.

Actually going back to Kona driver 9.0.3 instead of 9.0.6 has solved most of the issues…for now…sometimes newest is not best!

Mac or PC? On Mac desktops you can add internal drives and stripe them into a RAID. That gives each user a decent amount of local storage. Then get a good Ethernet Switch and network them together. Simply mount the other computers RAID and you now can edit with that footage like it’s on your computer. Cost? About $200 for four 1 terabyte drives for 2 terabyte RAIDs in each computer.

Want more? Add a SATA card to both Macs and a JBOD storage box, load it up with drives and you can network that as well.

Not thousands by a long shot.

Also, I believe FCP X won’t load unless you are runnning Lion. the App store runs in Snow Leopard, but FCP X doesn’t show up until you instlal Lion.

So, I partitioned a 2 terabyte drive into Leopard with all my current installs, Snow Leopard with CS 5.5 and FCS 3 and then Lion with FCP X. This way I have three options at boot up to work in whatever environment I need. All running off a single drive. I’m simply a boot up away from tinkering with FCP X or I can reboot and work in Leopard with FCS 3 with Compressor, DVDSP etc.

I think it’s the way to roll at this point.

I used M100 for about 3 years after coming from AVID. The way layers and transitions worked was so non-standard it was a deal breaker. ON the M100 site there is a demo how transitions work and I see it’s the same old thing.

Improved, maybe, but it is much like FCP 7, AVID Premier and the rest…sort of old school without much going for it as a breakout app except the end of life for FCP.

I don’t know a single company in our area (Upper Midwest USA) that uses M100. I know more Vegas editors.

Not knocking a good deal on decent software, but…
