Exactly….I have four PVW2800s and two DigiBeta A500s. But no Betamax!

I don’t respond many times for exactly the same reason you state. I want a list that is relevant to my business in some manner….if it doesn’t look like there is a connection I don’t respond to the invite.

Curious which AJA product. We are running all LHi’s in our Mac towers and they have been flawless while our Blackmagic 4K card has been fussy. We upgraded all our video cards for more Vram and processing power on the GPU. That helped along with an SSD PCI boot up drive.

But AJA has been solid for years, no matter the OS or editing software.

March 8, 2017 at 7:10 pm in reply to: Traffic down?

Good points Tim and glad to get some of that “inside baseball” peek inside the machine.

I appreciate the COW for the participation not just the inherent traffic. It used to be a daily exercise to peruse the various well traveled forums and post comments if I had anything to add etc, but although traffic may be up of people looking in, what seems to be down is the participation of the various discussions compared to what it used to be. I was curious if it was trending this way for a reason, and you have provided some deep insights.

Anyone else seeing/feeling this and have any ideas how the industries changing landscape can be affecting this kind of forum based traffic? Maybe Mark Suzko’s long posts intimidate people into thinking they have to write a lot to participate in our 140 character abbreviated world!

March 1, 2017 at 3:59 pm in reply to: Smelly Case

I ordered some small hard drive cases from Korea and when you open them you get a serious blast of some kind of noxious chemical fumes….like really bad.

A coworker said to put vodka in a spray bottle and mist it down. Never tried it, but when I kept the cases open for about a week out in the garage the smell went way down, but they are clearly made out of some pretty nasty stuff.

    Look nice enough however!

  • Very interesting read because it covers two subjects in one! The new modes of communication and the new age of budgets! Our local MCAI chapter is having its meeting next week and the topic is budgeting for projects and maintaining a livable hourly rate for our skill sets. Should be an interesting discussion. And we’ll have a mix of old timers who are familiar with a $450/hour room rate, to the newbies who will shoot on a DSLR for a full 10 hour day for $250.

    Interesting times, these.

I thought the Ford spot with all their new products including a bicycle was the winner….but it only aired before the game and after the game….believe it was a 90.

January 18, 2017 at 5:16 pm in reply to: Low Res copy of B-Roll for client

We do the same. We create sequences of Broll usually categorized by where we were shooting….exteriors, shipping, assembly line etc. Our encode settings are 320 x 180 one pass 600kbps and mono audio at 32k sample and 80kbps. We add a timecode window to everything that is fairly large so easy to read. They are tiny files and encode relatively fast…Don’t take too long to upload and can never be used in an actual project.

And we bill ’em, but it is usually about 1/2 hour of prepping the sequences and maybe an hour or so encoding so usually comes in under $300 to get them ready depending on total length.

Todd, did you pony up for the C300 Mark II? We have the C300 Mark I and just updated our 5D Mark II to the Mark IV but think the C300 Mark II is our next move. Unless NAB shows us something better in the $5-7k range.
