  • Why not point potential employers to clips on your current company’s site and point to the ones you had the most to do with the editing. As long as the clips you want to show are already online I’d use those rather than posting new ones to your site.

I’ve used Hostmonster for the past 12 years and pretty much love it. Two outages in 12 years….one was yesterday, but not bad.

Need to get Michael Moore on this one!

But….someday I will use Final Cut X. And probably love it.

I’m a database guy at heart. But an editor first.

Thank Herb…”after a film has been locked, goes back and looks at all of his footage one last time to see if he missed anything. ”

So many times we think the edit is over once it is “over.” But that last dig thru the footage has netted a gem almost every time! It is so different looking at footage purely subjectively rather than looking for a clip that will fill a hole. Looking after the fact affords that.

    Brilliant.

June 19, 2017 at 9:04 pm in reply to: How would you quote this?

Hey Richard…..how successful are you with getting paid any money “up front” meaning a check in hand before you even start editing? I ask because I don’t think I can recall in 17 years that a client provided a check prior to the work being done/

Now I live in the Midwest and a gentleman’s handshake still means something, so maybe that plays into it, but not one of my clients would cut a check prior to the work being done. However they do let me send a “prebill invoice” which is send at the time the project starts but almost always has a net 30 on it.

In the studio I sometimes get a check at the end of the day after the shoot for out of town clients.

    Hmmmm.

Pretty cool…in this industry you have to deliver year after year and compete with all the new looks, techniques and business models, so 20 years is a big deal.

We’ve seen some of your work over the years and it’s darn good. But the classic aluminum Christmas Tree has to be my most memorable moment at Fantastic Plastic!

    Way to go guys!

Believe it or not I had one two weeks ago. An electronic recycling company came to pick up a pile of old decks and apparently the Betamax was in the pile when I was sure it was somewhere else. It did have a sticker on it saying it didn’t work but I never tested it.

    DOH!

  • Really want to see 10GigE in the new MacPro. I want to set up a new 10GigE network here and having a port on each machine without needing a PCI card would be, as Trump would say, Huge.
