I am wondering if the new iMac Pros would even ship in December….looked at a current fully loaded iMac that they sell today and curious if the GPU is that underpowered that it would not compare. I can full load up two current 27″ iMacs for about $5000 each.

Biggest thing the new iMac Pro offers us is 10gig e networking. if the trash cans had implemented 10gig e years ago I would have four of them….currently we run souped up 2010-2012 towers.

With 10gig e networking and a switch along with local thunderboldt RAID storage we’d be ready for sharing, editing and collaborating.

Do I really need the iMac Pro, or could a fully maxed out iMac tide us over for 1-2 years?

My day is complete….a nice warm, sentimental and highly accurate post from our own Bob Zelin to kick off the Thanksgiving holiday.

I know what I’m grateful for….the hard work it has taken to get this far in this crazy business and clients who place their trust in us to get it done….on time and on budget.

Hi Greg; I like it. Wish I could have seen an example of the layout you use. We have waffled between portrait and landscape orientation.

Also for all dollar amounts we round to the nearest dollar and do not use any decimals.

So $1500.00 now looks like $1500

I also noticed you weren’t paying for lunch for your client. Hmmm….on shoots we always assume we are paying for lunches for everyone on the set and it is in the budget…

We’ve been using Screenlight.tv and it’s served its purpose. I also put links on our server and send simple links for review. They are pretty far along unless I specify it is just for review.

No one mentioned insurance. Certification with a 107 is required for commercial use but how is everyone insuring their flights? My insurance company, The Hartford, sent me a letter that they do not insure any form of drone…even if they had in the past. No more.

There are some companies that will insure a single shoot….so you essentially buy the insurance for a day.

So get your 107 and then check with your insurance company if you are insured for flying in case of any liability in case of an accident.

I carry blue, red and silver screws that I find at hardware stores….they are always unique and somewhat unusual….in my pocket. I drop them into random gear cases after a shoot and they never know where the heck they came from.

Actually no, but the matte box thing makes sense.

Interesting. I own a production company and the job security of a steady gig with an educational employer is pretty attractive in many ways right now. The agencies that used to pay rate card are looking for the next shiny object for 1/2 the rate. Getting crew to agree to half day shoot rates on a 4 hour shoot is harder than ever. But clients don’t understand that crew want full day rates. My editing rates are getting lower and lower each year just to keep up with the competition who are all working out of basement offices. It’s a tough deal right now. Two of my kids want to go into communications in TV and Film and I am not encouraging them at all. Go into biotech or programming for goodness sake! There is a future in that!

Go produce a creative story for a non-profit in your area who is doing good work and maybe that’s all it will take to bring satisfaction to what you do.

The version of Lumetri plug in has to be 11.1.0 which is the one that loads in the latest Premier build download.

On any clip in Basic Correction tools, lowering the blacks anywhere below 20-30 units causes the clip to go completely blocky and looks like low bit color space. Kind of hard to describe. It also oversaturates the black area and in some cases even changes the hue!

When we replaced only the Lumetri plug in back to 11.0.2 it worked perfectly. Nice smooth gradual change of blacks.

Had the same issue on 5 like legacy Mac Tower systems all running Yosemite and all having AJA Kona cards. We have a mix of ATI and Nvidia graphics cards but those did not make a difference between systems….it was always traced to the 11.1.0 version of Lumetri.
