Do you need the plugin to determine shot data from the THM-files?
You can also rename the .THM files to .JPG and then view the EXIF attributes of the file. I use Adobe Bridge for that, but I would not know what the alternative on a Mac is (Finder?).

Although I’m in Europe, I could imagine this would work; especially if it’s a facility with benefits in terms of not-so-often used equipment like cranes, green screen, as well as office space / editing bays etc.
However, I can only suggest that you should find out how big your market potential is for video production companies or freelancers and how many other studios (competitors) are situated in your area. Perhaps another idea is to finance this with multiple owners (time/space sharing).
Good luck with your research.

Initially, I got the same response from the PR & Marketing firm I work for. After having seen a couple of my productions, my client (PR Firm) actually makes a joke or two to his clients, if only to reassure them: “Richard works with these still cameras. It looks silly, but the results are phenomenal.”
Also, I have learnt that using DSLRs provide another benefit as well – initially when you’re shooting people they tend to pose as if you were taking stills. I let them for about 5 seconds and just when they begin to wonder why they have not heard click, I tell them that I am shooting video. Whilst still recording, they instantly relax and laugh and provide you the best natural footage you could wish for.
So having a matte box to make it look like a video camera can also work the opposite way.

Check out: Philipbloom.net, buy a DVD from F-Stop Academy or take the CreativeLive course from Vincent Laforet.
If you feel you’re ready, rent a rig for a day and start trying things out.
Good luck.

September 29, 2010 at 7:51 am in reply to: can you get a uncompressed output via HDMI from the Canon 5D Mark II while NOT recording?Interesting question, although I am not sure if this helps…
I was just looking at some videos yesterday from Teradek, who have come up with a system that allows for ad-hoc wi-fi networks. Read the review on PhilipBloom.net. Using a separate recorder would allow you to bypass the issue of resolution-dropping.

Depends on your needs – I prefer Audition as it gives me way much more control over audio (I grew with the program ever since it was called Cool Edit Pro), but I guess if you need to work fast and do simple audio processing, then Soundbooth is ok.
The new version 4 is a great upgrade, btw. Can’t wait to get my hands on that.

5D shoots 24/25/30p natively, thanks to the firmware upgrade that was released in March of this year. I don’t have a T2i, but a 7D and a 5D. Check out Philipbloom.net or the Gear section on Vincent Laforet’s blog for all sorts of reviews.
If you keep using FCP then I guess you’ll need to either transcode to ProRes or use proxy files with Magic Bullet Grinder.
Instead, I work with Premiere Pro and After Effects CS5 (with 64-bit and Mercury Playback Engine) which allows me to use the footage without transcoding. Even adding effects of color grading is done directly.

Advice – do it in-camera. That way you can’t do the wrong thing…
