Great. How do I locate Episode software? A quick search of the internet gave me no definitive results of anything that looked promising for the program you describe.

I’m not sure how long you have been married but the best possible advice I can offer is to NEVER, EVER edit with your wife. Especially your wedding video. Let her edit it with your best friend. He will end up thinking you are a saint and she will end up as proud as a peacock of the final version regardless of the quality.

Thanks to everyone. I think I can do this project with something less than 60 firewire dirves so we should be OK.

  • You might be able to do that but why would you put that many hours on your camera?

August 21, 2006 at 6:10 pm in reply to: Mono to Stereo?

Well you can’t make a mono sound source stereo but you can emulate stereo. During the initial days of television when stereo was a new idea they used to experiment with delaying the mono sound source and putting it on the right channel- sometimes adding a bit of reverb to “wet” the sound a bit on the delayed source. They did that same thing to the old sound recordings that were originally in MONO.

Another thing that we regularly do is to take a mono sound source and embellish it with stereo natural sound sources.

What is the nature of the sound source you are seeking to make stereo?

Hey Thanks for the information. I was able to wait a while and got Compressor to finally take off. What I discovered was that the files are HUGE! When I use the Motion JPEG 100 setting, the file for a 3 minute title sequence is 7.35 GB. I’m going to try the Motion Jpeg 75 setting to see if that will take up less room. We have two segments that are around 3-4 minutes as well as a longer segment that is 14 minutes. That longer one would take over 25 GB of space. So I’m beginning to get a bit concerned about the storage requirement and the ability of the computer they will be using to handle the playback.

I think I figured out the problem with the rotating rainbow (sounds almost pleasant when described like that)…my system drive had gotten pretty trashed with lots of old files over time. Cleaning it up really helped and now no more rainbow. Usually it’s the simple stuff that gets me.

Thanks for the help and kind suggestions.

I knew that Motion would do it. I just wondered if there was a workaround in Final CUt.

Yep…I’ve had similar problems. Usually my destination format is standard definition so I’ve begun importing my footage using the DV downconverter built into the SONY deck or the camera. Then we are editing everything in standard definition. That has yielded a much better result but I’ll be watching the thread to see what other experience others have had with this.
