I’m just wondering how may Firewire drives I can daisy chain together before encountering problems. I usually only use one or two at a time and that has been no problem but I’m about to add a 3rd a 4th drive and that gave me pause for concern. What is the imit?

I don’t really know what the limit is, but I have had 4 daisy chained together and have not had a problem.

    It’s sixty something. 63? 64? I’m not sure. But I think you’re safe.

Note that this number is what the firewire bus on the comptuer can handle. I’ve heard it said that you shouldn’t go over 16 FW cables in a single chain. So if you had 30 drive you should do 15 in one chain and 15 on a 2nd chain to another firewire port on the computer.

Not that I’ve ever heard of anyone doing anything close to that in the real world.

Thanks to everyone. I think I can do this project with something less than 60 firewire dirves so we should be OK.
