ONe thing about shooting in HD and then converting to DV…Your DVD footage won’t look any better because it was shot in HDV. WHat you will have though is some futureproofing if a client later decides they want to rework their program in HD for 16 x 9 display. I just had that discussion with a client yesterday. Fortunately we shot everything in HDV so it is entirely possible to get the whole thing done by simply re encoding and changing a graphics. So what was a $35K project will cost around $7K to change to HD.

That is kind of what I thought. The developer wants a single file if at all possible.

I have two of these cameras and have experienced the same problem. First QUIT final cut. Be sure you are completely out of the program. Now turn your camera off and connect the firewire to the camera. Now turn the camera ON to the VCR position To do that you’ll be pushing in the green button and turning that clockwise. Now launch FInal Cut. It should recognize your camera as a deck.

Thanks so much. I’m sure that sounds simple but I haven’t a clue on how to break the file into two different files. I’ve just never had to do that before.

Maybe …but bhis is not a complex layering job – it is just superimposing text over the background. That is why we chose to put it into Final Cut.

One thing we are experimenting with now is rendering the photoshop file sequence separately from the background and exproting that as a quicktime file. Then we would bring that back in as a single layer over the background to eliminate the problems we seem to have in dealing with multiple layers of moving images (photoshop jpegs).

Can’t you re-install FCP5 and try to re-open the project in FCP5? Might be worth a try? If you can’t re-install…Another option might be to take the project to another FCP 5 shop and see if they can open the project file.
