I have an 7.17 GB QuickTime file that I need to give to a Flash developer using a PC. I’m obviously on a MAC. Using a Firewire drive is not an option because of the formatting. We have tried using a USB thumb drive that has an 7.67 GB capacity but the file just quits loading after about 4 hours. I’m embarrased to tell you that as a last resort we have tried loading it on a firewire drive and then using the firewire drive’s USB connection to see if the PC would recognize it. Of course that did not work either. I can’t convert to SWF here so that suggestion won’t help. Any other help will be appreciated.

    This one is easy Richard,

Move the large file to a Firewire drive formated as you normally would for the MAC.

Next, download and install Mediafour’s MACDrive 6 on the PC.

Now, plug in the Firewire drive.

Now, do whatever you need, i.e. copy the file, work on the file. You might need to break the file in two however, as the Windows 4gb file size limitation may affect you.

Thanks so much. I’m sure that sounds simple but I haven’t a clue on how to break the file into two different files. I’ve just never had to do that before.

You may not have to break it apart Richard, MACDrive may have the 4gb limitation thing figured out now, but if you do have to split it, just put the file in FCP and chop it in half a a nice clean edit point and and export both halves separately.

That is kind of what I thought. The developer wants a single file if at all possible.
