I was told that shooting in HDV then down converting to DV is better than shooting in DV alone. I just shot some footage in HDV but cannot get Final Cut to recognize my camera as the deck. Can you please tell me what settings I should have? I do get the audio!
    Thanks So Much,

Make sure that your camera is set to down-convert from HDV to DV

I have two of these cameras and have experienced the same problem. First QUIT final cut. Be sure you are completely out of the program. Now turn your camera off and connect the firewire to the camera. Now turn the camera ON to the VCR position To do that you’ll be pushing in the green button and turning that clockwise. Now launch FInal Cut. It should recognize your camera as a deck.

ONe thing about shooting in HD and then converting to DV…Your DVD footage won’t look any better because it was shot in HDV. WHat you will have though is some futureproofing if a client later decides they want to rework their program in HD for 16 x 9 display. I just had that discussion with a client yesterday. Fortunately we shot everything in HDV so it is entirely possible to get the whole thing done by simply re encoding and changing a graphics. So what was a $35K project will cost around $7K to change to HD.
