There is no difference in featuresw between Mac or Windows Photoshop
I would suggest trying a different technique other than the color replacement tool… such as using a Hue Saturation adjustment layer…..
Make a selection of the pupils
Then add H/S Adj layer

Count your total pixels…. if you are enlarging the image by cropping to a larger total pixel dimension.. you’ll have softening. You can also change your interpolation method in prefernces to bicubic sharper for enlargements or smoother for down converts.

Make sure that the picture is an actual layer and not a background
Then in the optiosn bar choose treh Hide option before you crop
