it is the echo effect. but..there probably is a better way as the echo effect for something this long would take a while

Ok since you are using that particle system you can create a new solid and draw your path on that solid. hit M to bring up masks and copy that path into the position path of your particles…alt click on stopwatch then paste path

Wow…Lol…Newb ok okay. Each time you move the position it creates a keyframe. he just edited down his own tutorial to speed things up.. Got it?

You can use masks to animate the stroke. add variety to the shape of the mask to add fluidity. or luma/alpha mattes of things like mr mercury or simple chokers in reverse

Parenting in difficult ways….It doesnt sound too difficult. create your array of squares. parent them to another sqaure that will do the spinning, then move each box to the edge of the screen.. The timing is the trickiest thing though. you have lets say 100 squares falling off… The curve that the keyframes make should resemble the curve of a bouncing ball almost…This could probably be done using element 3d animation engine.

How does the foam effect place bubbles. I made a few maps and while it changes, i cannot tell how or why it is channging. its not where my white is, and its not where black is

Lame…but ill help. Layer new-solid-grab the pen tool ( and click on rotobezier ) turn off the solid but have it selected and draw a mask around the sand) ..choose color for your solid or ad a fill or a gradient ramp. this particualr example is just a blue solid on normal, however if he had added a tint effect to a duplicate layer of the sand and animated the mask, it would have looked nicer, But its just a solid with 50% opacity or so…Now you have your blue shape, hit MM and start animating the mask path over TIME
