“When I conform my footage then drop it into my 60 fps time line my nle doesn’t seem to like that…”
That because you have conformed it to 24p (I assume this from reading your post) and now it needs to play on a 24p time line NOT a 60p time line.
FYI… be sure to conform to 23.98 and NOT 24 (Cinema Tools will allow either) True 24p is for film out and NOT for video work. The DSLR, even though it says 24, it really means 23.98.

You say “…no audio was recorded.”
Was was your MKE 400 connected to the camera? Did you actually monitor the audio with headphones while you were recording? This mic has a VOL and on/off switch… was it on? If it wasn’t recorded there is nothing you can do. It is just not there.

Hi Kevin,
Are you by chance using nested sequences to combine your segments? I have always had weird audio stuff happen when I try to use nested sequences in FCP… So, I just never use them.
If you are not doing this already, try combining your segments by copying and pasting one set of edits onto the other seq and see if this helps.Richard Cooper

“…so if everything is identical except capture card should i make me free of worry that “capture card is degrading footage.”
and not think about going for so advertised high quality capture cards.”Well, There are many things to consider here…. and the cheapest route is not necessarily the best way to go. We use AJA cards here, the best customer service in the biz and worth every penny….. Black Magic is another good option as well as Matrox….. They all do the same things AND different things for different needs… look at your needs vs budget and go with what fits your needs the best. None of them will “degrade” the video quality so that does not even need to be part of the equation.
Good Luck!

“What about just putting 60p footage on a 24p time line? It runs like 24p and you can slow down whatever clips you want…. Is there some sort of advantage to using cinema tools to conform it first?”
THis is not a good workflow….. FCP will just drop frames to play back at 24 and it will do this very poorly at best. You loose out on the benefits of over cranking in the first place. To add to Phil’s good advice, YES use Cinema Tools to conform to 23.98 (NOT 24… CT will do either) Another thing I would do, if it were my project, is to trans code all of your HDV to ProRes 422 for editing…. You will see a marked difference in the way your footage holds up to color grading and rendering as well as how your system will handle the footage speed wise. Bare minimum, if you have to work in HDV, set FCP to render in Prores while working in HDV.
Good Luck!

Hi Jenna, What you are looking at (the blinking 60 kHz) is the refresh rate of the LCD screen. How are you monitoring your video? Do you have an AJA or Black Magic HD i/o card?
It sounds to me like you may be using the screen as a second (or third) computer monitor rather than a proper Video monitor. Can you give a little more info on your complete system?Richard Cooper

Yes this works. I did it for a client just a week or two ago. Blew them away actually. Once you have all the clips synced on the time line, make sure and “link” the video to each audio file (cmd L) and then drag all of the newly linked files into a NEW bin and call it Synced files. Then all they need to do is open that FCP Project file, reconnect the media, and drag that bin into their project and they are golden.
Hope this helps.

May 12, 2011 at 8:12 pm in reply to: Need to work with XDCAM EX video/audio on a Powermac G5 Dual 1.8GHz?“…ingest and edit XDCAM EX video/audio. Will Final Cut Studio 2 (Final Cut Pro 6 specifically) do the trick for me?”
Hi Meagan, Yes FCP 6 will handle XDCAM EX no problem (just make sure it is 6.03 or later).
Once you have your system upgraded and running FCP 6.03 you also need to install the SXS Card reader drivers and FCP log and transfer plugin so you can bring ingest your XDCAM footage.
All of these driver downloads can be found HEREGood Luck!

May 12, 2011 at 6:42 pm in reply to: Simple Problem Importing EX1 Footage Driving Me InsaneOK… so first you, need the SxS card reader drivers installed on your laptop. . You can download them HERE then your card will mount on to your desktop when inserted.
Once you have this working you need to be able to bring the files into your editing application. You need to download the Sony XDCAM transfer software for this. You can download this HEREIf you are working with FCP and want to bring them in via Log and transfer you need to install THIS PlugIn for FCP
Hope this helps. It is a great workflow once you have all the necessary drivers and plug-ins installed.
Good Luck!
