By the way, our page was designed with Hype, the new HTML5 editor. If you see any problems with the site, please feel free to let me know which browser/platform you’re using.
Hi John,
Site won’t load on my machine. Mac Pro running FireFox 3.6.18
…also the back button seems to be disabled. I can’t go back, just tries to reload your page, which it cant do. This is a complete no no for me. Once I encounter that on any web site I never return.I tell you this in case it was not intentional and you want to fix it as well.
Hope this helps.

June 25, 2011 at 6:40 pm in reply to: Why most of the the “Trainers” are so positive about X-FCPIn every situation, there is opportunity, many times multiple opportunities…. the gift is to be able to see through all the crap with a clear vision and actually be able to see it. It is what separates the very successful business people from the rest….
You can liken it to he “gold rush”…
Most of the stampeders toiled away for years never to find any gold at all… Only to leave broken, beaten down and destitute… If they even made it out alive. They were blinded by “gold fever” and missed the “real opportunity” to actually get rich during this time because they could not see the “real opportunity”.The only people that actually made any real money in the “gold rush” were the ones selling services and supplies to the miners. “Mining the miners” so to speak…. It is actually very smart from a business standpoint….
More power to them! They provide a valuable service…. One that people are free to use… Or not.
In general, and not specifically regarding this forum, I have seen that most successful people already have a plan when a roadblock appears and are already in the process of implementing that plan while every one else is running around screaming and complaining and yelling about how bad everything is. This is human nature and certainly NOT unique to FCPX.
One of the things that I have noticed on the Cow this week is a lot of the people I have come to respect over the years here have been noticeably less active than usual… No doubt they are busy implementing their plan and working hard to make sure they remain ahead of the curve when the dust settles and everyone decides to get back to work.Richard Cooper

“People who made a living off this are done….”
Greg, I have made a great living with FCP over the years and I assure you, I am NOT “done”! You still need to be able to sell… and yes, tell a STORY!… (just don’t confuse this with telling stories to sell your self 😉
People forget this constantly, my self included. I catch myself getting freaked out about every Tom, Dick and Jane in the world having Final Cut on their laptop (now more than ever!) and calling themselves editors… or worse yet, production companies… until I go and look at their work… then it becomes abundantly clear that most couldn’t tell a compelling visual story if their lives depended on it. They have no concept of pacing, no concept of story, or a good color grade, or what a good sound mix sounds like…. Hell most of them cant even upload a 16:9 aspect video of their cat to YouTube without screwing it up (Although FCPX seems to have even made that easier now)…. It really has nothing to do with the tools. It is the art, and FCP is just one of MANY tools out there. SELL YourSelf and the rest will come, no matter what tools you use.
The good news is, the next Walter Murch or George Lucas probably just purchased FCPX as his/her very first editing app and will inevitably make history 10 or 25 years down the road and inspire us all… and more power to them. Tools for the masses allows the cream to rise to the top… just like DV did for many of us here on the COW back in the late 90s. If it were not for that revolution, I would probably still be driving a truck.
So… the choice becomes, pick your tool and go sell your ass off and make films/videos for a living… good or bad…. There are various markets for both no matter what tools you use.
Or…. throw up your hands and pick up a pencil and become a writer, after all, the pencil is as cheap and easy they come…. seems like anyone could be making a living writing novels…. Hmm… 😉Good Luck!

If I remember correctly, (I actually did this a while back and it worked great) the codec won’t let you work with DNxHD files back inside FCP but it will make it possible for your system to use QT Pro (7) to open and then transcode them to ProRes so you can edit them.

June 23, 2011 at 7:39 am in reply to: Naming convention: round tripping to Color, ProTools, etc.No worries. Just re name it to what ever you want once it is back into FCP. I will typically make a folder called “working sequences” ‘in which I place all of the pre color duplicates then rename the sequence “from color” to something like “my project_final graded master”.
If you need to “tweak” a grade, no need to “re send” to color… Just open the color project, tweak your grade on whatever shots you want to tweak, re render and your done. FCP will connect to your new grades automatically.
The connection in FCP to the renders is quite unbreakable really…. You can even copy these graded clips in to a new FCP seq and the XML will keep the connection without any issues.
Hope this helps.

“I am currently attempting to open up a XDcam EX project after copying all the files to another HDD…”
All you need to do is reconnect the media when you open your project file. There should be no need to “re-import” or export any EX media.
Unless of course I am misunderstanding what you are trying to do.If so…. Please clarify and I can try to help further.
