I have the same set up and was using it with P2 a month ago and it worked seemlessly. I will dig out the deck, I am moving house as I edit a short film, and check what I did,R.

I followed Shanes posting from DV Creators religiously and it worked perfectly so far. I went back and created Folders to match the P2 cards, placed the contents folder and the txt file in that folder as separate elements and it worked, I nearly bloody cried. Gratitude springs to mind. Gratitude that the Cow community exists, even down in the Southern Pacific in the middle of winter. Thanks guys, R.

  • Many thanks Shane for offering a solution. Should the txt info be typed upper or lower case. Should all those txt files be in one separate folder, ie, just txt files.
Basically I have imported each P2 Card via my Laptop with a PCMIA slot to a FW Hard Drive. I am using FCPStudio 2. The first batch came in just fine. I have changed the CONTENTS folder title by adding 1. 2. etc and the date as when I tried to import originally it told me i already had a TXT file. Silly me deleted it. Oh well. I have followed your instructions as best I can but still no luck. Any more thoughts would be very much appreciated. Cheers, Richard.

and so, as I start 2008, I wish you both well, I took your experience to heart and that is what I have invested in. On another forum I am looking for input on a good solid external HD, anything around 1.5/2.0TB, I edit offline primarily, not interested in being a facility, a simple 🙂 story teller about to start my own feature length Doc, many thanks and Happy New Year.

January 6, 2008 at 11:46 pm in reply to: What would you ask a superstar feature film editor?

personally, I would stay away from asking about equipment.
A great editor, heaven forbid a ‘rock star’ would do a great job with a pair of scissors.
There are numerous articles out in the iSphere regarding interviews with great Editors.
    Maybe you could simply start with some of the following ;
    1. who are your mentors
    2. how did you come to editing
    3. what is your relationship to the Director, the Producer
    4. what film would you have loved to have edited
    5. in reading a script and making a decision to sign onto a film, what motivates you
    6. how do you deal with a Director/producer clash
    7. well that will do, i am sure you get the message, it is what is in the Editors hands and heart that the audience wish to know, the tools are but that tools and it would be a wasted opportunity to get to the heart and soul of story telling, for that is surely, the bottom line.

this is what I am considering, does anyone have experience or thoughts. I have a G5Quad 2.5 with 4.5GB Ram, so I know my computer is fine.

July 4, 2007 at 3:25 am in reply to: Post workflow/productivity software

Hi Kevin, please feel to email me directly, I have owned, run and edited via post houses in Sydney, New York and LA, it was rare for anything to fall through the cracks, a good post producer, preferrably a Virgo 🙂 sounds what you need. The problem with any software program is that it is only as good as the person inputting the information. I still have records of projects going back to th 70’s. In this day and age assistants and post producers have much more to learn but it’s all basically the same. You have a client, you bid, are awarded the job, edit, post and deliver. but that doesn’t even begin to tell the whole story, it is the systems, schedules and the people involved that can make or break a good experience for clients and editors, amen.

Many thanks, basically I bit the bullet, so to speak and reinstalled FCPStudio, upgraded and it works just fine, cheers to all who helped, Richard.
