re: FCP Start Up issue
Posted by Richard Clark on April 25, 2007 at 11:06 pmI have been working on a project the past couple of weeks, FCPHD opens just fine, today It starts to open and then as the startup window is about half way done it simply quits. I have searched Start Up issues but cannot find anything.

April 26, 2007 at 12:00 amIf trashing prefs does not work, open the project from a previously autosaved version – the project file may be corrupted. You can browse directly to the autosave folder and open the latest autosaved version by clicking on it to open fcp. Note that trashing prefs will have stopped FCP from trying to open the dodgy project and crashing.
See how you go – most times this works for me. And as a side note, since FCP5 I have not really had this problem (that I can remember) although I’m sure others have in all probability.

April 26, 2007 at 2:48 amI tried starting from an older saved version and the same issue happens. The project I am working with is mainly stills with some HDV and some material from a DVD. I just ran a Diagnosis from the start up disk and at least my hardware is all okay. However, when I reboot the computer my Airport doesn’t show and I can’t open FCP, mmmmm. Maybe I should reinstall FCP but will that allow me to open existing material? Many thanks for your reply, I am out in the boonies/outback/countryside, of new Zealand and getting hands on help is a distinct challenge. Cheers, Richard.

April 26, 2007 at 4:44 amTried all of the above, I just now reinstalled FCPStudio 5.1, it opens just fine, however I can’t open my previous project as it is a recent update of FCP and my Airport card is not allowing me to connect to the Internet. One step at a time I guess 🙂 I have run diagnostics and that shows I have the Airport card and that is working fine or so it says. I have a call out to the ONLY service centre in NZ, if worse comes to worse I will take some time off, go fishing and wait until they turn up next week and i will then re-edit my project in a matter of 24 hour days, just like I used to. I have ordered Studio 2 and can’t wait, cheers and thanks for the feedback, R.

April 26, 2007 at 5:46 pmone thing that i’ve found helpful during a startup crash is watching the progress as Final Cut lists all the files its loading up as its starting up. then see what file or group it hangs up on. for me, its been either new Fonts or Plug-ins that make FCP crash. try moving the plug-ins out of the plug-ins folder, and then see if it starts alright. if you just installed a new font, move that font out of the fonts folder (be sure to check both the user fonts folder and the system fonts). in the past, i had a demo plug-in expire, which then caused FCP to crash every time it tried to load the plug-ins folder.
hope that helps.
