  • FCP to Sony HVR-M15U to Monitor?

Posted by Tony Rath on July 25, 2008 at 1:53 am

I am running FCP 6 and have no problem capturing HD off a HVR-M15U recorder, but I can’t view video from FCP through the recorder to a video monitor for color correction.

Having a hard time finding the proper settings for both FCP and the recorder to do so. I see recurring references on here that it can be done, but no directions on the setup.

    Any hints? Thanks!

If I understand correctly there is no real time playback monitoring of HDV VIA a firewire deck. You need either a AJA/BM capture card or an MXO

I have the same set up and was using it with P2 a month ago and it worked seemlessly. I will dig out the deck, I am moving house as I edit a short film, and check what I did,R.

I have an AJA card, so all my monitoring goes through that,, but a while back, before i got the card I rented a M15U for a project, and had the same problem, no playback, only still image when playback stopped. After “reading the manual” I found that you cannot watch realtime NLE playback of HDV material via firewire to the deck until output or the timeline is conformed or something of the sort.

Perhaps you can with P2 material. I imagine you convert the P2 material to something other than HDV?

nope, we didn’t convert anything, it came in from the Contents file, i must admit i was amazed. Now, my most recent venture with P2 on a panasonic 502 created more of a challenge but thanks to this forum I was able to fix the problem and now feel like an old pro . . . .wait a minute, I am an old pro. good luck, Richard.
