November 26, 2006 at 3:04 am in reply to: Exporting an EDL-V1 Track Only???

Ok thanks. Now when I bring the cut aways onto V1 my plan was to razor on both sides of the video on V1, remove the video on V1 and drop in the cut away that was on V2. Right so far?

Now what happens to the audio that was on V1 that I want to use? In order to pull out the video from V1 I will have to break the clip so that the audio and video are separate, then I’ll yank out the video and leave the audio.

I assume the EDL will be exported to reflect this? The on-line machine will know via the FCP EDL that I want the audio portion left intact?

    Thanks

    [John Pale] “yes.
EDL’s were designed for linear tape based editing. Think of video track 1 as the record machine.”

[Tom Wolsky] “1) Hold down the Cmd key as you drag the slider.

    2) It just says, “codec error” nothing else? If the timeline is active it will export that sequence or a portion of it. If you use the default settings for QT Movie it should export in whatever settings are used in the sequence. What are your sequence settings? All the best,”

FCP is like the car that makes a noise, but won’t do it in front of the mechanic. Now it’s working????

I’m exporting a 720X480 DV NTSC QT movie, quality=best. Maybe it’s working now because I exported it to tape and it wanted to render the audio before it did that, then it went to tape. I used the tape output as a re-load, then exported the whole thing as a quick time once I hacked off the slate.

Typical video editors half assed work around 🙂

Ok thanks for your help, I’m sure I’ll be back with more simple and obvious beginner questions.

[Tom Wolsky] “1) Open the clip into the viewer from the timeline and in the filters tabs adjust the brightness/contrast controls.

Thanks, that seems to work. I wish FCP had an easier sliding scale so I could get “finer” levels.

    2) How are you exporting the clips? We can’t tell what the error message is from here. All the best,

I’m choosing: File>export>quick time movie. When I hit save I get “Codec Error” if I do just one clip it’s fine, it starts the process of exporting it as a QT movie. Do I have to highlight or select the time line in some way?

In Premiere you make a blue line above what you want to export and it exports only that portion of the time line. FCP seems to want to export the time line from the first video.

    Thanks, Richard

Ah I see there it is, thanks, then you drag the title onto the time line. You’re right, crappy title tool, Premiere’s is easier to use 🙂 I don’t seem to have this Boris dealio that I can find?????

Now I have to figure out how to key it and fly it?????????

I’m thinking I could build these titles in Premiere, make them into a QT movie, and import them into FCP……Steve Jobs has just arrived, he has two large men with him and a baseball bat, is that a bad sign???

I would say they work perfectly, when I tried it on my friends Premiere Pro they looked and worked just like normal video. I didn’t notice an difference.

I exported the file off the FCP time line, DV-NTSC, Best, 720X480.

They do work, but not well. How were your MOV files encoded? “
