  • Exporting an EDL-V1 Track Only???

Posted by Richard Boddington on November 25, 2006 at 9:40 pm

    Hi,

I need to export my EDL from FCP for the on-line. One thing I have found in the manual is the following:

“In an EDL, the superimposed cutaway clip will appear as a key edit, which is not the result you want. Before you export an EDL, be sure to edit all superimposed clips that you’re using as cutaways back into track V1.”

Ok so does this mean that any shot on track V2 needs to be cut into V1 for the EDL? Even one being used as a cuts only cutaway with no EFX?

Or just shots that are to be superimposed?

    Thanks
    Richard

    yes.
EDL’s were designed for linear tape based editing. Think of video track 1 as the record machine.

Ok thanks. Now when I bring the cut aways onto V1 my plan was to razor on both sides of the video on V1, remove the video on V1 and drop in the cut away that was on V2. Right so far?

Now what happens to the audio that was on V1 that I want to use? In order to pull out the video from V1 I will have to break the clip so that the audio and video are separate, then I’ll yank out the video and leave the audio.

I assume the EDL will be exported to reflect this? The on-line machine will know via the FCP EDL that I want the audio portion left intact?

    Thanks

    Yeah. That should be fine.

What are you using for online? Conforming to tape based linear systems is not very common these days…are you using another NLE?

No I’m not using another NLE, I’m auto assembling in a HDSR to HDSR suite.

That’s just the first hurdle, the second is getting the 35mm 24fps HDSR footage, to magically assemble from a list being built with 29.97 DVCAM downconverts. Yes I know about Cine Tools, but there seems to be 20 different ways of using it for this process. I have to find one that works for me.

    R,
