Keep in mind, the 2 smaller models (2ghz and 2.3 ghz) are a single dual core processor. They can’t be much different that the duals we have now. The way I read it there is only one quad (2.5ghz) which is the one used in all the performance graphs. When the G5’s came out there was 1.6 single and 1.8 single and the duals came later.
Eventually the 2 smaller machines will become quads too and we will get a 2.7 dual dual core.I recently made $800.00 on my G3/400 fcp2 machine which was all that was needed to do a simple long form job. It was the only place I had room and the hard drives at the time. Everyones been telling me to get rid of it but why sell it for a couple hundred when it can pull in money like that once in a while. They’ll always do the jobs we bought them for in the 1st place.

I’m with Chris on the instructional DVD.
The Mini-VariCamp is great however I hate to admit it but, the ram and memory I have upstairs is no match for samsung or seagate’s when it comes to recalling all those bits that were loaded originally. Tests have shown that the average person retains about 8% of the info from a seminar unless you write it down… in which case you remember something like 12%! Why not record the 1st Mini-VariCamp with a couple of HVX200’s and using that as a guide, add some details and edit into an instructional DVD? All us “Alice Hiemer” types could refresh our failing memories as often as need be and recall every shred of info.This camera will appeal to a large array of users, many with much lower budgets. Those in smaller centers competing for fewer jobs for less money will be in this new market. The cost of attendance to a Mini-VariCamp with airfare and accommodation could mean the difference of buying that extra SD card or other accessory. Often schedules don’t permit attendance to these events. Count the number of vericam owners and compare to the number of vericamp attendees and you can see not all those who should attend, have. This owner/attendee ratio will be worse with a more affordable/accessible camera like the HVX200.
I’m not sure how much of a 2 or 3 day VeriCamp can be crammed onto a dvd but that with a condensed fine points section with graphics, narration and stills and perhaps the manual and web links should sell for $400.00, (the cost of the event for those who can’t make it). $200.00 if you buy a camera and $100.00 if you attend a Mini-VariCamp.

I’m looking at the FirmTek external system mainly because my AJA i/o doesn’t like to share the firewire bus but it still looks like a great storeage system for the mac. PCI/PCIX card with up to 4 SATA outs; Hot swap drive enclosures (2 drives ea.) jbod or raid 0, 3 configurable. Drive cradles are $22.00 so you can keep drives on the shelf to hot swap or just change if you want to start something new before you have to dump your present data. The cables are only a meter long so the drives need to be close to your computer but this system is not that expensive. I have seen 2 meter cables elsewhere but Firmtek doesn’t mention this length. They offer a bundle with the card and cables etc all in one which is great too. The whole system is less than a fibre channel card (less drives) and with drives getting bigger and cheaper by the day it is versitile too.

I’m just about to purchase this same set-up, now I’m scared! At $469.00 plus the drives it seems like a great storage option. Any one know of other solutions in this price point? Any comments on the Firmtek?

There have been several different apple monitor interface connectors in past years right up to the present dvi interface. Try a google search for “monitor adapter” or “mac monitor adapter” and you will undouptably find what you need. Once you locate an adapter supplier you can narrow it down from there.

It’s done over the S-Video connector.
Analog HD Component isn’t any different in that regard. “It’s possible that it may not be compressed on certain cameras but s-video is chroma/luminance, the 3 primary colors have been mixed, whereas DV at least retains component color signals.

Check ebay, Nikon bundled genuine fractals with photoshop 5LE when they brought out the 990 3.4 MB cameras several years ago. If you bought the camera in Canada genuine fractals was not there but US versions had it. Your graphic artist should have the full version anyway so maybe it’s still not enough. Cristian’s suggestion is a good one, keep the photos small and maybe add afew more along with other design elements. Hey how about the filmstrip look. You could frame a string of frame grabs into a graphic of a film strip. Each frame could be about 2X3 or 3X4 inches and the film strip could wind around the poster.

Worth noting: the AJ-HD1200A DVCPRO-HD tape deck does not record 1080P as the AG-HVX200 will. With optional record cards it records: DVCPRO HD-LP (optional) (1080/60i, 1080/59.94i, 1080/50i, 720/60P, 720/59.94P) and will play back: 1080/60i, 1080/59.94i, 1080/50i, 720/60P, 720/59.94P, 720/24P/60, 720/25p/60, 576/50i, 480/60p, 480/60i. It will record DVCPRO through firewire (a first). It will play back VariCam recorded tapes at 720/24P.
