Thanks for your help, I’m with clients all day so will check these out later. Basically someone needed to borrow a deck to record from their encoder as “their decks wouldn’t do it”. I questioned the logic behind this as from my understanding from about lines 18 -28 ntsc has reserved for these types of data, line 21 being CC. I’ve never needed to work with them but have seen on the waveform and been aware they are there and I ASSUMED any deck could record or play as they are part of the ntsc signal. What would my aj-d750 have that their 650 or 640 doesn’t have or their uvw-1800; D-9; DSR-80? All these I would think should work but then I don’t know everything either.

Can you display the data on a monitor to see if there is an error code? I don’t have a service manual for a dsr11 but if there is a “magic way out” you need the error code. Then maybe google it for the “how to”

It’s probably better for the capacitors to keep the deck on than have sitting with no power for long periods. Drum (heads), threading (load mech) and tape reel motors are the things that you have to worry about.

How did you get DVDSP 5?…..(you don’t have to answer that, DVDSP 4 is current)

Any tracks that are selectable options in the dvd should be seperate encodes.
Alternate video tracks (angles) and different language or comentary tracks can be copy and pasted to a new sequence, nested or mixed down and exported using compressor.
Different language or comentary tracks will likely share the same music back grounds but will need to be mixed down seperately so they are complete stand alone tracks.

Try uncompressed 8 bit at 23.98, I’ve had excellent results. Offline rt photo jpeg should work well also but I’ve yet to try it.

None of these devices handle the LP recording speed. They do mini dv and/or dvcam but not LP. You need to borrow a consumer camera or the little clam shell deck for mini dv (something 900 and 300). We have a photo shop in our tourist area here who rents these handycams to tourists. You can probably find one in your area too.

Yes that monitor has a 16:9 setting. It is an old monitor but if the picture is good and the price is right, go for it.

I think they sell these by the pound, they are full of copper windings and weigh a ton! It’s a very interesting concept, read on.
